The Ex Who Became His Obsession Novel Ch 36
Lauren threw up a hand and replied,” reporter’s instinct.
Then she lowered her voice, a adding, “Theard Archer suddenly switched up his hairstyle, like, full–on thick bangs. Don’t you think something’s off about
that?”
Everyone in this line of work knew that secrets never stayed buried for long
Word had already spread that Archer ditched Vanguard Media last minute to give an exclusive interview to their biggest rival. He even brought in their photographer for a magazine cover shoot.
From the photos leaked online, the guy had gone full bowl cut mode. The bangs were so thick that they were practically grazing his lashes
Aber all, Archer had always faunted his strong brow ridge and clean forehead. He once even claimed, “Real hotties don’t hide behind bangs“-clearly throwing shade at val celebs who used bangs to contour their face shape.
Alyssia stayed silent. She couldn’t exactly blame Archer for being pissed or trying to smear her name.
As an actor, his face was his career. Hitting him in the face? That was not just assault–it was a direct threat to their career.
But Alyssu had no regrets. If anything, she wished she’d been more precise that day. She’d meant to attack Archer’s cheek, not fry his brow ridge.
The second her electroshock bracelet hit, she’d cranked it to max. She wanted that moment branded on him like a scarlet letter.
Beatrice said Alyssia was an easy target, but that was just the surface. Beneath her good–girl shell was a set of hidden barbs.
Anyone dumb enough to grab her would learn fast–at best, they’d get scraped. At worst, they’d bleed.
Archer could only swallow the humiliation in silence. He wouldn’t dare spill. He knew well that he was the one who crossed the line.
If the story ever came out, anyone with half a brain would wonder why Alyssia, a reporter sent to conduct a routine interview, resorted to violence.
After all, she went there to do her job, not to make an enemy. If she weren’t comered, she wouldn’t have attacked Archer like that.
Alyssia know Ancher would keep his mouth shut, just like she had no intention of broadcasting it.
Reporters and celebrities had always lived in that blurry space between allies and enemies. It was a love hate dynamic baked into both careers.
They’d scratch each other’s backs when needed and rip each other apart when cornered. But unless it got truly nasty, neither side would ever be the first to strip away the last fig leaf of dignity
Lauren suddenly asked, “By the way, who was that woman on the phone the other day?”
Alyssia replied, “My…..foster mother
“Thought she was your mother, She’s kinda protective, huh?” Lauren smacked her lips like she was savoring the memory. “Damn, it’s been a while since il talk to somoure so spity”
Alyssia thought, ‘Does Lauren have a masochist streak or something?”
macked Alyssa on the back. “If you and Leonard ever end up duking it hin a new one night to his lace”
it out in court, you have to bring her along. I’ve got a gut feeling she’d
drip
Alyssia said with
inde, “Lauteri, you’re
illiant reporter
“You know what? Beatrice wouldn’t just curse Leonard out. She’d dare beat him The saw stars, Alyssia thought.

Just then, a low murmur of excitement came from the neighboring team’s area.
“Laurs” Cian nished over, looking flustered “Under the Mountain and Moon just got snatched up by Chris’s team”
“What?” Lauren was so stunned that her lollipop dropped out of her mouth,
Under the Mountain and Moon was one of this summer’s most hyped fantasy dramas. Since the start of filming last year, the production team had
partnered closely with Vanguard Media’s entertainment division.
Lauren’s team had beaten out every other group to win coverage rights for its promo campaign.
But now, just as the drama was about to air, and after months of groundwork, they were getting cut out at the final stretch.
It was like planting a tree, watering it, Fighting off bugs, and right when the fruit was ripe, someone else swooped in and picked it
While Cian was still talking. Chris strutted over smugly. “Lauren, Diana told me to have you transfer everything you’ve got on Under the Mountain and Moon over to me. I’ve got people heading out to track progress. Don’t hold us up”
They were both editors, so even if Lauren wanted to rip Chris a new one, it wouldn’t change a thing. Furious, she hurled her lollipop into the trash and stormed toward her supervisor’s office.
Moments later, the entire floor went dead quiet as Lauren’s voice rang out from Diana’s office. “Dians, why the hell is Under the Mountain and Moon being handed off to Chris? That’s our project. My whole team’s KPIs are riding on it.”
Chris and Lauren had never been friendly. On top of that, they were direct rivals, constantly locking horns over scoops and exclusives.
Now, everyone on the floor sat in perfect silence, trying not to miss a single word Diana said.
Cana’s voice wasn’t loud, but they could hear her clearly.
She answered calmly, “You know better than anyone what’s been going on with your team lately. There’s instability. Under the Mountain and Moon is too high–stakes. I can’t afford to gamble. Chris had a solid run last quarter. He can take it from here.”
Lauren’s confidence took an instant hit, and she retorted “She collapsed from a sudden illness. That’s a force majeure situation.”
And as the editor–in–chief, did you not have a Plan 87” Diana shet back. “You’re not now to this game. And yet you sent a rookie there all by herself? With leadership like that, I have to seriously reconsider your entire team’s capability ”
Lauren tried to defend herself. “That was Archer’s demand. No cameraman, no e
no extra staff. He only agreed to be interviewed by Alyssia.””
Diana’s tone sharpened. “Oh, it was his demand? And it never occurred to you to send someone along just to wait outside? Someone who could step in if things went south?”
“Even if someone alle were sent, Archer wouldn’t have accepted them. He specifically asked for
Danacut her off, clearly losing patience, “Then that makes it her problem. You need to reconsider whether this employee even belongs in this job. If the’s not up to par, don’t let her drag your whole tear down.
“And don’t bring up what Aucher wanted. He had a whole list of demands, yet somehow he had no issue granting Bright Orange Media an interview Immediately afer How do you explain that?”
Bright Orange Media was Vanguard’s biggest rival, if any other outlet had scooped Vanguard, they wouldn’t feel anything. But if it were tight Orange, thur would be a humiliation for Vanguard
Lauren stood stimmt for a few seconds and made one last atte
“Let’s set Archer’s issue aside for now. But Under the Mountain and Moon-
“Take care of your “unstable factors‘ first,” Diana said icly “Torget about tinder the Mountain and Moo Screw up one more project, and event won’t be able to keep your around”

Chapter 361
Lauren murmured something in response, but no one outside the office caught what she said
Diana, however, made no effort to keep her voice down. “I don’t care who’s backing her in this industry, you eat what you kill. If she’s got other talents, she can flaunt them somewhere else..
“I’m not running a whole department just to coddle someone who pulls strings if she’s not around, she’s still got options. But if we lose our jobs because of her, who’s gonna hire us
When Lauren finally walked out of Diana’s office, the entire floor was dead quiet, like someone had hit the mute button.
Alyssia sat at her desk, her fingers gently tapping the edge of her keyboard.
Charlie had promised that she wouldn’t be blamed for Archer’s case. But promises aside, people could still make her life hell in a dozen indirect ways.
Dana might’ve looked like she was dressing down Lauren, but every single word was aimed straight at Alyssia
Charlie had Ekely warned Diana not to fire her outright. But Diana could still crush her spirit by making Lauren’s life miserable, using that pressure to grind Alyssia down one layer at a time.
Around noon, Charlie messaged her to ask if she wanted to grab lunch together, but Alyssia declined.
She’d brought a packed meal, popped it in the office microwave, and just stepped outside the staff cafeteria when she overheard a cluster of colleagues talking
One snoered. “They practically gift–wrapped Archer and handed him to Bright Orange, and Charlie’s still covering for her?”
Someone added, “Damn, I don’t even know what to say.”
A woman said, “Maybe he wants her to learn some experience at the bottom for a bit, then pull her up later as his s
s secretary.”
Someone sighed. “What a tragedy. The entertainment division is officially the dumping ground of Vanguard. They can take anyone in.”
A younger woman spoke up, “I’m begging her to just move to another division. She’s only been here for, what, a few weeks, and has already stirred up two scandals”
One asked, “Besides handing Archer to the competition, what else did she screw up?”
“You don’t know? The mess with Leonard, Clairivera Group is suing Vanguard for compensation. They want 25 million dollars”
The first exclaimed, “Holy shit! You couldn’t even sell her for that kind of money. What the hell is Charlie thinking? He’s still standing by her?”
Someone sneered, “Maybe she’s got some special talents. Enough to make Charlie think she’s worth every cent
Alyssa didn’t give a damn what they said about her work. But the e second they started spinning stories about her and Charlie? That crossed a line.
She stepped straight into the cafeteria, walked right up to the gossiping crowd, and slammed her lunchbox down on the long table.
The group instantly turned silent. The same people who had been talking with excitement a while ago were now frozen stiff
Deep down, they wanted Allysia to hear the gossip. They wanted their venon to hit home
But now that Alyssia had walked in, it was then who felt awkward
Everyone sat there, one wondering the same thing. How much of what we said did she just hear?!
Alyssia didn’t spare them a glance. She just looked over them coldly and dropped a line that sent a chill through the room. “Give me three days Archer’s career will be ruined.”
