The Ex Who Became His Obsession Novel Ch 53

The phone was about to go to voicemail when Alyssia finally heard Leonard’s voice on the receiver.

“What is it?” He still sounded cold and impatient.

There was no name, no warmth, nothing but sheer disdain. But Alyssia had grown used to it, then become numb, and finally stopped caring

“Mr. Rivera, I do apologize for calling so late,” she said. He had his coldness; Alyssia had her courtesy.

She added, “Please refrain from meddling in my career and personal life from now on. As a member of the Clairmont family, I can handle these minor matters myself. There’s really no need for you to use a cannon to kill a fly.”

“Oh, and about your assistant Joseph? Please tell him to stop making those out-of-line remarks,” Alyssia chuckled softly on the other end of the line.

Her laughter was as sweet and clear as wind chimes tinkling through lily of the valley.

She continued, “He told me you’ve done so much for me-that you, the dignified heir of Clairivera Group, have gone to great lengths on my behalf of course, I never believed a word of it. How could an orphan like me ever deserve your concern?

“But he has indeed caused me considerable trouble, so please instruct him not to approach me again. That’s all. My apologies for the disturbance. I wish you immense prosperity in your business and all the best.”

By the time Leonard had fully taken in every single word Alyssia had said, she had already hung up.

It was so abrupt, so sudden, and so heartless.

Dark fury clouded Leonard’s brow as he instantly hit redial.

But after two quick tones, his call was instantly cut off.

She blocked him so swiftly.

“Rocco, please,” Milena pleaded, tears welling in her eyes, looking utterly pitiful. “I just need to see him for one glance. I barely managed to squeeze cut time to come here-just one glimpse, that’s all I ask.”

Rocco was just about to shake his head.

Bang. A deafening crash erupted from the inner office. It sounded as if something heavy had been violently hurled against the door.

Rocco spun around in shock, while Milena nearly gasped in fright.

But then-with a heavy thud-something else crashed to the floor, shaking the ground so violently it seemed to tremble three times.

Rocco took a few cautious steps forward, then abruptly halted. Objects crashed to the floor in rapid succession,

In his mind, Rocco began counting the items in Leonard’s office, one by one. ‘Computer, sculpture, cup, chair, file box-‘ he wondered.

Milena still tried to press forward, but Rocco, his expression frosty, was already blocking her way. “Ms. Johnson,” he warned coldly, “if you don’t leave now, I’ll have security escort you out.”

“Rocco-” Milena murmured.

Rocco pulled out his phone.

Milena gritted her teeth in silent fury, yet was utterly helpless.

Rocco was far tougher to handle than Joseph. Rocco always came across as gentle and polite, treating Milena with utmost courtesy, but beneath that

pleasant exterior, he was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Milena thought to herself, ‘The day I marry Leonard, my top priority will be eliminating Rocco from his side.

Leonard tore his office apart, leaving nothing unscathed.

His phone was the first casualty. The moment Leonard realized Alyssia had blocked him again, he hurled it straight at the door.

Then he sprang to his feet and, like a madman, swept everything off his desk onto the floor.

By the time he was done, every breakable item in the office had been smashed. Nothing escaped his rampage.

Finally, Leonard flung the chair aside, strode over, and yanked the door open.

Facing Rocco, who stood outside with his jaw clenched tight, Leonard said with eerie composure, “Get someone in here to clean up this mess.”

A howling wind blasted in from outside, making Rocco catch his breath for a split second.

Rocco saw that one entire panel of the office’s floor-to-ceiling glass wall was completely shattered..

The floor was littered with countless tempered glass shards, their jagged edges glinting painfully in the light.

Rocco’s gaze snapped back to Leonard.

Leonard strode toward the elevator with steady, decisive steps, not a single trace of his earlier rampage visible in his composed demeanor.

His rage spent, Leonard sealed himself off once more, reverting to his composed and rational self.

Joseph was unceremoniously kicked out of the residential complex by the security guards, utterly crestfallen.

He slumped by the roadside, his face a picture of dejection, until Leonard’s car pulled up beside him.

The window rolled down, and Leonard’s very first words hit Joseph like a ton of bricks.

“You went to see her?” Leonard demanded, “You told her I’ve done so much for her? Did she kick you out?”

Joseph felt like his heart was about to stop right then and there. But to his surprise, Leonard didn’t fly into a rage.

“Get in,” Leonard commanded. He was driving himself tonight, no chauffeur.

“Stop looking for Alyssia,” Leonard said, his voice unnervingly flat, after Joseph nervously got into the car. “We’re over. From now on, she has nothing to do with me or the Rivera family.”

Honestly, Joseph was completely stunned.

Though Leonard had genuinely come to detest Alyssia over the years, she was like an indelible tattoo branded onto his very being, utterly impossible to

remove.

Joseph had always thought Leonard might end up marrying someone else, like Milena, but it never crossed his mind that Alyssia would actually leave him one day.

When Joseph remained silent, Leonard suddenly whipped around, wrenched one hand free, and clamped down on Joseph’s shoulder, his fingers digging in as he barked, “Did you hear me? Answer me.”

Before Joseph could answer, a blinding flash of light suddenly erupted,

“Mr. R-” Joseph said instinctively.

With a deafening crash, the world turned upside down in skull.

an instant. At that moment, Joseph felt like her entire brain had just been blown right out of his

Anxious to show William her first draft, Alyssia set an

early alarm.

William said that at his age, he’d be up by 6:30 a.m. for his morning workout.

But what jolted her awake wasn’t her alarm. It was

an urgent call from the hospital.

It was Rosalie’s attending physician calling. Alyssia jolted upright in bed,

But when Alyssia answered, Joseph’s voice came through, persistent and unwelcome as ever.

“Ms. Clairmont, please, you have to come now. Mr. Rivera is dying.” Joseph sobbed like a broken man. “He doesn’t even recognize anyone anymore. He just keeps calling your name, over and over.”

“What are you even saying?” Alyssia’s head spun from Joseph’s hysterical sobbing.

Alyssia’s mind was still stuck on Rosalie. She couldn’t focus on anything else for the moment.

Joseph was babbling hysterically. “Early this morning, a big rig was coming into the city. The police said both drivers were driving drowsily. We got hit

head-on.

“The whole front of the car was smashed in. Thank God the car was sturdy. But Mr. Rivera is not going to make it. I’m fine, just a mild concussion. I can’t believe I’m okay. Why couldn’t it have been me instead?”

Alyssia felt a cold sweat slowly creeping up her spine. “I-” A lump formed in Alyssia’s throat.

“Alyssia,” Joseph snarled through gritted teeth, “if you dare not come, I swear I’ll have Rosalie thrown out of the hospital. After all these years by Mr. Rivera’s side, how can you be so heartless and ungrateful?”

“Just shut up, Joseph,” Alyssia shouted.

She hung up, threw on the first clothes she could grab, and rushed

On her way to the hospital, Alyssia tried calling Beatrice several times, but couldn’t get through.

Beatrice always turns off her phone at night. Maybe things weren’t as bad as Joseph made them sound.

But when Alyssia arrived at the hospital, she ran straight into Beatrice.

Not only was Beatrice there, but Leonard’s father, Theodore, was there too.

Beatrice looked ashen, while Theodore wore a grim expression.
