But after a moment, he steeled himself.
In his mind, Seryna was just a powerless girl, while Jeremiah was a financial genius with real influence. She wasn’t the family favorite, so once they married her off, she’d get nothing more than some money. No way she’d have the power to come after him for this.

The other two men froze and dropped into a crouch, arms over their heads.
Seryna watched, a faint, satisfied smile on her lips.
Natalie rushed over. “Seryna, are you okay?”
Seryna looked up, her face red and swollen. Natalie gasped.
“Oh, don’t worry. I’ve got you.” She untied the ropes, then gently wiped the sweat from her face with a tissue.
