Several of Javon’s friends turned to him, clearly surprised.
“Javon, what happened? Did you two fight? I thought you were planning the wedding.”

Javon’s face darkened, some of the drunkenness fading.
“She was being unreasonable and jealous, saying she wanted to break up. I got tired of trying to calm her down.”
“How can you break up over something so trivial? You’ve known each other since childhood.”
Logan, cigarette in hand, smiled, “I’ll call her for you and give you a chance to patch things up.”
He put the call on speaker.
“Jaelynn, Javon’s drunk. Can you come pick him up? I’ll send you the address.”
There was a brief silence before Jaelynn’s voice
The line went dead. No one spoke.
“That’s not my responsibility. Call someone else.”

me come comfort her.
Javon gave a short, irritated scoff. “She’s just playing games. This whole breakup thing is just her way
“Now you’ve called her, she’ll think I’m trying to reconcile. You’re only making it worse.”
Talon Baldwin raised a brow. “Javon, aren’t you worried she’s really upset? Jealousy just means she still cares. Just go comfort her.”
“I’m not doing it. She’s overreacting. Once she calms down, she’ll come back and comfort me instead.”
In his mind, Jaelynn leaving for good wasn’t even a possibility.
Meanwhile, Jaelynn’s phone buzzed with a message from her mother.
Jael, do you have time for a blind date tomorrow? Seven PM at Myst Coffee.”
“Yes, I’ll be there on time.”
The next evening, just as she stepped out of her car outside the coffee shop, a long voice message came through from her mom.
“Jael, I checked into him for you. His name is Zain Conner. He’s twenty–eight years old, stands five–foot–ten, and works in the marketing department of a foreign company. He earns over 10 thousand dollars a month, is neither fat nor thin, and has an average appearance. Oh, he’s somewhat introverted. His dad said he’ll come straight after work. The signal is a white rose on the table.”
Jaelynn chuckled to herself and thought, “Why not just send me a photo? Why make it a treasure hunt?”
The coffee shop wasn’t busy.
She spotted the white rose almost instantly.
It was placed on the table by the window, in front of a man in a suit.
Taking a slow breath, she walked over.
“Hello, I’m Jaelynn Norton.”
The man lounged back in his chair, scrolling through stock prices on a tablet.
At her words, he looked up, unhurried.
For a moment, Jaelynn froze.
The man in the perfectly tailored suit had a poised, almost noble air.
This was what her mother called “average–looking“?
Composing herself quickly, she offered him a polite smile. “Excuse me, are you here for the blind date tonight?”
A faint smile curved at the corner of Agustin Calhoun’s mouth, and he didn’t deny it.

“Yes, Ms. Norton. Please, have a seat.”
Jaelynn sat down. Silence settled between them.
She wasn’t sure what to say. Blind dates weren’t exactly her forte.
The man across from her didn’t seem in any rush to speak either.
She could only notice that his breathing sounded slightly uneven.

Catching sight of the stock market charts on his tablet, she ventured, “I heard you just returned to the country. Are you adjusting well? I imagine work must keep you busy.”
Agustin replied, “Work is manageable. Mostly, I’m adjusting to the time difference. I find myself wanting coffee at night.”
His breathing had evened out, his tone now gentle and polite.
“Ms. Norton, what do you do for work?”
So… her mother hadn’t told him?
Jaelynn smiled, “I was in charge of exhibition planning for the project department. Here’s my business card. But I recently resigned, and I’m planning to start my own studio.”
He accepted the card, glanced at it, and slowly ran a finger over her name.
“Apologies. I didn’t bring my business card today.”
“That’s fine.”
Jaelynn’s eyes drifted to the watch on his wrist. It was a limited–edition luxury model worth over 200 thousand dollars.
His suit was clearly a custom–made Armani.
This didn’t match the modest profile her mother had given her.
Just then, the waiter arrived with coffee and cake.
Agustin asked, his voice calm, “Ms. Norton, you mentioned opening a studio. What kind of work will it be?”
“Jewelry design. It’s been my dream since I was a child.”
She had expected the meeting to be stiff and awkward.
To her surprise, their conversation flowed easily.
Then the phone on the table lit up. Agustin glanced at the screen, his brow furrowing slightly.
“Ms. Norton, I have something urgent to take care of. Let’s add each other on WhatsApp.”
“Okay.”
Jaelynn lowered her head to add him, making a quick note in her contacts.
She didn’t notice that, once outside, he walked straight to a waiting Rolls–Royce.
Mr. Calhoun, did someone try to hit on you in there?”
“No. It was someone I haven’t seen in a long time.”
