Javon hadn’t slept a wink the night before.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He hadn’t expected to be dumped so suddenly.
The next day, he went to the company for a meeting.
The atmosphere in the conference room was unusually tense. Everyone noticed Javon’s grim expression and treaded carefully to avoid mistakes.
At that moment, the project department reported the success of yesterday’s jewelry exhibition.
Javon’s attention immediately drifted. He pictured Jaelynn on stage, radiant and dazzling.
But this was the same Jaelynn who had just said she wanted to break up with him.
Restless and irritated, he abruptly cut the meeting short and headed back to his office, passing the secretary’s room.
Restles
It reminded him of, Jaelynn.

But now…
the projects succeed.
The office was cluttered with disorganized papers.
Annoyed, he remembered how she used to remind him to water the plants on the windowsill.
Glancing over, he saw they had all withered.
*Shayla!”
It was the first time he had called her out like this.
“You’ve been here a month. What have you been doing every day? You didn’t water the plants, and these documents are still a mess. I hired you as a secretary. Don’t you even have the basics?”
His tone was sharper than usual, cutting through the office silence.
Scolded harshly by him, Shayla immediately began to sob, “Mr. Bradford, I was organizing the documents for you to sign this afternoon. There’s just too much to do. I work overtime until 8 PM every day. I’m really trying…”
Her voice trailed off, and Javon’s thoughts immediately turned to Jaelynn.
He realized he had never heard her complain about being overworked.
Whether at the company or at home, she had always given everything to him.
He had taken her unwavering support for granted.
Now, she was gone, and his world felt like it was falling apart.
How could she leave?
Why would she leave?
Without thinking, Javon stormed out of his office and headed straight to the project department on the 17th floor.
“Where is Jaelynn’s seat? Who approved her resignation?”
Jerome had never seen Javon so out of control. His voice tense, he replied, “Ms. Norton resigned on her first day in the project department.”
Javon froze.
He stood in front of her desk.

It was immaculate, with everything neatly organized and each item clearly labeled for the colleague it belonged to. Even the potted plant looked cared for.
Opening a drawer, he found her unused work ID and business cards from when she worked in the secretarial and project departments.
She discarded them all and was determined to be nothing but herself.
A suffocating wave of realization hit him.
Last night was the last time he saw her at the company.
He hadn’t realized that all the little habits he had taken for granted might have been the last.
Was Jaelynn really breaking up with him?
No.
She must be trying to get a reaction and provoke him.
“Hmph, Jael is definitely trying to scare me.”
Realization struck Javon.
At that moment, the colleagues in the project department exchanged glances.
They all knew about Jaelynn’s resignation.
How could Javon not?
“She’s just trying to get back at me for not coaxing lately.
she’s
‘s still preparing for our wedding. I’ll find proof that she’s lying, that she doesn’t actually want to break up with me,” Javon said to himself, struggling to rein in his anger.
He grabbed the potted plant and drove home through the p
pouring rain.
Once home, he noticed an envelope from the bridal shop among the pile of mail.
A smile crossed his face.
“I knew Jael was still preparing for our wedding.”
Without opening the envelope, he immediately drove to the bridal shop to pick up her wedding dress.
Javon had visited the shop with Jaelynn once before, but he couldn’t remember the route and had to rely on navigation the entire way.
