It was late, and he was about to leave with his friends.
Just then, Andrea spotted a familiar figure in the corner.

Surprised, she blurted out, “Hey, that’s Ms. Ramirez, right?”
Geoffrey instinctively looked over and saw Maureen chatting and laughing with a man.
His expression darkened at once.
Maureen came to a bar to get drunk, and even acted so intimately with a man?
Apparently, he had underestimated her.
“Geoff, shall we go ask?” Andrea looked at him.
“No need,” he said coldly before striding away.
Meanwhile, Maureen said to Gareth, “Thanks, but I can manage. You don’t have to give me a ride.”
Still worried, Gareth followed her out.
“Maureen, you really can’t remember me?”
Looking at him, she tried to place him, but his face didn’t ring a bell.
“Chubby. Remember?” he reminded her.
Only then did she remember that Chubby was her good friend from when she lived with Zoe in the countryside as a little girl.
Back then, Gareth had been chubby and shorter than her. But now, he was already 1.9 meters tall, with strikingly
handsome features.
“Chubby? Yes, I remember now. You’ve changed so much. No wonder I didn’t recognize you.”
It was a joyful thing to run into an old friend.
Her forced smile filled Gareth’s heart with indescribable emotions.
“Let’s go. I’ll take you home.”
After arriving at the destination, he was a bit surprised to see her staying in a shabby motel room.
She seemed a bit awkward. “Sorry that you have to see this.

“Could you not tell Zoe that I live here? I don’t want her to worry.”
Gareth nodded.
It was too late.
Staying here would be inappropriate.
He told her he’d swing back to see her before leaving.
He drove out of the motel, missing the matte black Maybach parked in the shadows.
After Gareth left, Maureen curled up in bed.
The alcohol made her stomach churn, and she felt dizzy.
Just then, someone pounded at the door.
The violent noise was jarringly amplified by the stillness.
Figuring it was Gareth, she got up and opened the door.
Just as she opened it, Geoffrey grabbed her wrist.
His brutal force seemed enough to break her slender wrist.
“Impressive, Maureen.”
He shut the door and threw her onto the sofa.
“No wonder you wanted a divorce. You’re with someone else already,” he said with a cruel smile.
His words were a knife, twisting deep in her heart.
Why was he here? And as luck would have it, he had seen her together with Gareth.

She was stunned for a second before looking into his eyes, which were burning with anger. Her eyes reddened as she said, not explaining anything, “You’re no better than me.”
The Ramirez family tricked him into marrying her.
In retaliation, he gave her the cold shoulder for three years while rekindling things with his first love.
No one was the victim.
Geoffrey had some wine today, too, and he reeked of alcohol.
He gripped her chin, his eyes flushing red with anger.
“Who is that man?
“How long have you known each other?” he asked, his voice low and deep.

She had never seen this side of him before.
Suddenly, she chuckled. “Are you jealous?”
His gaze darkened before he ridiculed, “What do you have that could make me jealous?”
She felt a lump in her throat.
Suddenly, he leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper in her ear.
“He’s already been in your bed. Isn’t that right?”
After marrying him, she had given up her career to abide by the Sutton family’s rules, even declining occasional invi- tations from friends.
And, here he was, suspecting her…
All of a sudden, she felt a sense of release.
“What do you think?” she asked.
Totally enraged, he slid his burning palms all the way downward.
Maureen completely froze, finding it hard to process what was going on.
