“Who’s the man?” Geoffrey asked Andrea.
Maureen had said on the phone that she wouldn’t marry another man for $50 million.
And Geoffrey didn’t believe her love for him was fake.
Andrea hesitated to reply.

In the corridor.
“Sir, we examined her after the surgery. She’s two weeks pregnant.”
The wind blew fiercely outside. Maureen put her slender, pale hands on her belly, her eyes glassy.
Gareth had told her that, according to the doctor, she was pregnant.
Could it be more ironic?
Maureen’s dull eyes told everybody she had lost the will to live. Zoe had to do something.
“Reenie.”
It was a long while before Maureen reacted. She turned to Zoe. “Zoe.”
Red–eyed. Zoe gently straightened the stray hair at Maureen’s ear with her wrinkled hand. “Reenie, I have no children. You’re like a daughter to me.
“I have no other wishes but your health and happiness.
“If my only child dies, how shall I live?”
Maureen got nervous when she saw Zoe grab the fruit knife.
“I took care of you till you were ten. I hadn’t been around after that. It was my fault. I can only apologize to Mr. Ramirez in this way.”
Zoe slit her wrist with the knife.
Stunned, Maureen tried to stop her with all her might. Nonetheless, she was too frail to get up. “Zoe, no…” she screamed in a hoarse voice.
Zoe didn’t stop.
Blood flowed all over her wrist. Tears streamed down Maureen’s cheeks. She cried, “I won’t do it again. I promise. Zoe, please don’t…”
Hearing that, Zoe stopped.
Her eyes were bloodshot.
“Reenie, you’ve repaid your mom for giving birth to you.
“Now, you owe nothing to her or Geoffrey.
“From now on, you live for the ones who love you, for me, for your unborn baby.”
Maureen thought about it and decided to live well for herself and her child.
Henceforth, she was done with Noelle Davey. That woman was no longer her mom. Nor did she have a brother.
