Chapter 5 Serendipitous Reunion After Returning Home
“No wonder the manager is so serious. With such a big client, we won’t have to worry about this year’s
performance!”
“Did you see that guy? He’s so handsome! And isn’t that woman next to him his rumored fiancée?”
“It seems so. She’s really beautiful. How do these people look even better in person than in photos?”
“Money, of course.”
“Sigh, we don’t understand the world of the rich!”
Scarlett Adler vaguely heard the whispers from outside.
She wondered what kind of client could make them so excited and serious.
Looking at East Hayes, she noticed he was sitting upright, looking more serious than the others.
Just then, someone came in and said, “East Hayes, the manager wants you to come over.”
East Hayes immediately stood up seriously and walked out, followed by three people. As he passed Scarlett Adler, he stopped and said, “Remember what I told you. Don’t interrupt!”
“Okay!” Scarlett Adler smiled slightly.
East Hayes left, and Scarlett Adler followed.
In the conference room, which was about 40 square meters, the manager was greeting the big client when they walked in. “Mr. Hodges, rest assured, we are professionals at this and will definitely meet your requirements.” He turned around and saw them.
East Hayes said with a smile, “This is one of our company’s most outstanding teams. They’ve already prepared solutions for the issues you raised earlier!”
As the manager stepped aside, Scarlett’s expression instantly froze when she saw who was sitting at the
front.
It was him, Hugo Hodges?
She had considered the possibility of running into him, but this was too unexpected.
When Hugo looked over, Scarlett immediately averted her gaze, pretending not to see him.

No, it couldn’t be her.
They were worlds apart; it was impossible for them to be the same person.

“Mr. Hodges, Mr. Hodges?” The manager called out twice. At this point, the woman sitting next to Hugo
noticed his distraction and followed his gaze to Scarlett.
Concealing the emotions in her eyes, she spoke for Hugo, “Let your team take their seats first!”
Manager Yan nodded and immediately gestured for them to sit down. Scarlett wasn’t a key figure in this
project; she was just there to observe, so she naturally chose a seat far from Hugo.
Hugo’s gaze swept to the farthest position, then he subtly retracted his gaze. “Manager Yan, please introduce
your team!”
Manager Yan smiled and began, “East Hayes, our company’s most outstanding programmer. This is Brent
Carter, Ethan Underwood, Wyatt Jones, and lastly, the new girl in our company. She’s not part of this project;
she’s just here to observe and learn!”
Manager Yan still didn’t introduce Scarlett Adler’s name. Scarlett looked indifferent, showing no emotion, as
if she didn’t recognize Hugo at all.
Hugo stared at her for a long time, seemingly trying to find any sign of recognition, but he couldn’t find a
trace of familiarity.
“Hugo, we have other appointments coming up. Shall we get started?” His rumored fiancée, Tiana Young,
interjected.
Hugo finally withdrew his gaze and nodded. “Let’s begin.”
With that, East stood up and began to address the questions Hugo had raised with a series of explanations.
Hugo Hodges wasn’t paying attention, occasionally glancing at Scarlett Adler, who was taking notes in her
notebook, appearing to be studying diligently.
Since Scarlett Adler had returned, she was prepared for Hugo Hodges to find out eventually. Although this day came unexpectedly, this encounter was much better than him seeing her with the children directly.
The meeting lasted about twenty minutes.

Finally, the manager looked at Hugo Hodges, “Mr. Hodges, what do you think?”
Hugo Hodges hadn’t heard a word, remaining silent.

Tiana Young spoke up, “Manager Yan, the proposal you’ve provided is indeed good, but we need to discuss it
internally. We’ll give you a response once we’ve made a decision.”
The manager’s expression was slightly anxious, but he had to agree, “Yes, yes, of course. If Mr. Hodges and
your company have any further requirements, please let us know. We’ll do everything we can to
accommodate.”
Tiana Young smiled and nodded, gathering her materials, then looked at Hugo Hodges, “Hugo, let’s go.”
Hugo Hodges stood up and was about to leave when he suddenly turned back at the door of the conference
room, his eyes fixed on Scarlett Adler. “What’s your name?”
Scarlett Adler was taken aback by the question.
The entire conference room, and everyone in it, was stunned, their eyes turning to Scarlett.
Scarlett, however, appeared calm. She glanced at Tiana Young and casually made up a name, “Akinyi.”
Akinyi…
Of course, it couldn’t be the same person.
Although they looked similar, their clothing, demeanor, and style were completely different.
Hugo Hodges averted his gaze, stood up, and left.
The remaining people in the conference room exchanged confused looks. What was Hugo Hodges trying to
do?
After seeing everyone off, the manager returned. “Scarlett, do you know Mr. Hodges?”
“No, I don’t,” Scarlett Adler replied calmly, shaking her head.

“Then why did you say your name was Akinyi?” Manager Yan was completely baffled.
“He asked, and I just said the first name that came to mind,” Scarlett Adler said, trying to brush the matter
aside.
But East Hayes was quick-witted and didn’t believe it. He glanced at Scarlett. “Women always cause trouble,”
he said before getting up and leaving.
Scarlett Adler, “…”
What did this have to do with her?
Just as Scarlett was about to leave, Manager Yan stopped her. “Scarlett, do you know who the woman who
came with Mr. Hodges is?”
“No idea.” Scarlett shook her head, not wanting to know anything about Hugo Hodges.
“She’s Mr. Hodges’ rumored fiancée, so do you understand what I mean?” Manager Yan said, “She’s Hugo
Hodges’ right-hand woman and basically manages the company for him. So, whether this project succeeds
or fails depends a lot on her. She can even make decisions on her own.”
“So?” Scarlett retorted.
How could she not understand? Manager Yan said, “Mr. Hodges is young and full of energy, always looking
for something new. But for so many years, he’s only had Tiana Young by his side. So remember what I said,
don’t offend this woman, or you and I will both suffer.”
What could Scarlett say?
This manager was really good, not trying to send her out, but telling her to mind her own business.
“Don’t worry, Manager,” Scarlett Adler said reassuringly. “Even if Hugo Hodges is every woman’s dream man,
he means nothing to me. I’ll avoid him like the plague.”
The manager nodded in relief. “Good, as long as you understand. Playing with fire is a recipe for disaster.”
Scarlett remained silent, listening to the manager’s words of wisdom.
Just then, Tiana Young, who was standing outside the door, overheard their conversation. A faint smile of
satisfaction touched her lips, as if to say, “Good, you know what’s good for you.” Then, she turned and walked
away.
