Chapter 6 Pretending not to know each other.

Back in the car, Tiana Young found Hugo Hodges scrolling through his phone. He glanced up at her. “Did you
find it?”
“Yeah, it fell on the road!” she said, waving the pen in front of him.
Hugo Hodges was indifferent. “It’s just a pen. It’s okay if you lost it.”
“But it was your birthday gift to me two years ago. It means a lot to me, so I couldn’t bear to lose it!” she
replied, carefully putting it away.
Hugo Hodges continued to scroll through files on his phone. Tiana Young glanced at him. “That Wendy is
very pretty and has a great vibe.”
Hugo Hodges paused, not looking up, and simply responded, “Yeah.”
“Is she the type you like?” Tiana Young asked, seemingly straightforward but actually testing the waters
cautiously.
Hugo Hodges looked up, his eyes deep and unreadable. “What are you trying to say?”
Tiana Young smiled. “Nothing, I just think she’s very pretty.”
“Pretty faces are a dime a dozen, but an interesting soul is one in a million,” Hugo Hodges said casually.
“But her face isn’t the dime-a-dozen kind,” Tiana Young said. Her beauty even made Tiana Young a little
jealous.
Hugo Hodges didn’t say anything more, looking down at his phone.
Tiana Young, who had been with him for so long, still couldn’t quite read his mind. She turned to the driver and said, “Let’s go.”

Night.
Hugo Hodges suddenly woke up from a nightmare.
In his dream, Scarlett Adler and her two children, covered in blood, waved at him as they drifted further and
further away.
Sitting up, Hugo Hodges’ forehead was covered in a layer of fine sweat.
He got out of bed and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. The bright moon hung in the sky, surrounded by
stars. He lit a cigarette.
Six years had passed, but this matter was still a thorn in his side.
After divorcing Scarlett Adler, the nanny found an ultrasound showing she was pregnant in her room. By the
time he realized it, Scarlett Adler had disappeared from his world. To be precise, he couldn’t find any trace of
her, as if she had vanished into thin air…
Frustrated, he picked up his phone and called his assistant. “Help me find a woman named Winnie working at
Rising Sun Tech…”
“Boss, now?” the assistant mumbled, still half asleep.
Hugo Hodges was silent for a moment. “Never mind, don’t bother.” With that, he hung up the phone.
He knew that the dream he had was related to the woman he had met during the day.
However, he also knew that it wouldn’t be just one person involved.
He didn’t regret the marriage itself, but he felt sorry for his two children.
If he had known earlier, the marriage might not have ended so quickly. At least, he wouldn’t have let her take
the children away.
After finishing his cigarette, Hugo Hodges turned around and went back to his room to continue sleeping.
Some things were destined to be regrets.
Rising Sun Tech had been waiting for news from the Hodges Family.
However, as time passed without any updates, East Hayes grew restless and went to see the manager.
“East Hayes, I know you value this project a lot, but the Hodges Family Group is not something we can
control,” the manager said. The lack of news already made it clear what it meant.
“Manager, is there something wrong with our project? Where did the problem arise? I want to know!” East
Hayes said.
The manager sighed, “I made some inquiries. Your project is supposed to be quite good, but Tiana Young has
put a hold on it. As for the reason, they didn’t say.”
East Hayes narrowed his eyes, “Does it have something to do with Scarlett Adler?”
The manager was in a difficult position. He had only meant to be helpful by sending Scarlett Adler to learn,
but he didn’t expect Tiana Young to target her. However, he couldn’t be sure if that was really the case.
“East Hayes, only the Hodges Family knows about this matter. Since we haven’t received any news from
them, I can’t just go directly to Mr. Hodges to ask, can I?”
“I understand!” East Hayes said, turning and walking away.
Watching him leave, the manager sighed helplessly.
In the IT department, everyone knew East Hayes was in a bad mood, but they didn’t know how to comfort
him.
During their break, they chatted idly.
“You can’t blame East Hayes for being upset. If he gets this project, his sister’s illness could be treated.”
“What’s wrong with his sister?”
“I’m not really sure, but I heard it’s going to cost a lot of money. The manager said that if we win this project,

he could advance his bonus to him. Now it looks like that’s not going to happen!”
“No wonder he’s been so gloomy these past few days!”
“Sigh.”
Listening to her colleagues’ conversation, Scarlett Adler frowned.
Just then, someone walked in and announced, “East Hayes went to the Hodges Family Group!”
Everyone stood up abruptly upon hearing this. “What? Is he crazy? Does he think he can mess with the
Hodges Family Group?”
“The manager said to send two people to bring him back!”
Ethan Underwood and Brent Carter, who were working on the same project, immediately rushed out.
Scarlett Adler remained seated, not moving at all.

Hugo Hodges was in a meeting when he heard a commotion outside.
Tiana Young glanced at everyone, then got up to handle the situation.
Seeing East Hayes insisting on seeing Hugo Hodges, she walked over and asked, “What’s going on?”
The secretary explained helplessly, “This man insists on seeing Mr. Hodges.”
Tiana Young looked at him. “Are you the programmer from Rising Sun Tech?”
“Yes, I am!” East Hayes replied.
“What do you want?” Tiana Young asked coldly.
“I just want to know what your decision is regarding the project,” East Hayes said.

“Is this how you people do business? I thought I made myself clear. Since you insist on knowing, I’ll tell you:
we’re going with the Inspiring Project.”
“Why?” East Hayes asked.

“I know Inspiring Company’s capabilities. They’re nowhere near as good as us. They’ve even been caught
plagiarizing before. How does this benefit your company?”
Tiana Young laughed. “Sir, please have some self-respect. Don’t resort to slander just because you’ve failed.
It’s really unbecoming!” With that, Tiana Young didn’t bother to say more. “Get him out of here!” She turned
and left.

East Hayes refused to leave. “I won’t say our project is the best, but it’s definitely the most suitable for you. What you’re doing is unfair!”
Tiana Young ignored him, not even turning her head.
Just then, the meeting ended, and Hugo Hodges walked out of the conference room. He didn’t even glance at
the commotion.
East Hayes, however, saw him as a lifeline. “Mr. Hodges, I’m from Rising Sun Tech. I need a chance, a fair
chance.”
Seeing that Hugo Hodges had no intention of acknowledging him, East Hayes grew anxious. “Are you really going to dismiss all our hard work because of Scarlett Adler, because of a woman? Is this how a major company operates?”
Hugo Hodges stopped in his tracks and turned to look at East Hayes.
