No Mercy, No Forgiveness Novel Ch 142
He stood and hauled Maureen’s suitcase toward the door.
Maureen trailed behind him, stunned and bewildered
Only after the suitcase was in the trunk and they’d gotten in the car did Maureen realize Geoffrey planned to drive himself.
“It takes five or six hours to reach Small Town. Shouldn’t we let the driver take us?”
Maureen worried he didn’t know.
“No need.”
Geoffrey disliked having outsiders around when traveling alone with her.
Before leaving, he’d told Wayne not to call unless absolutely necessary.
On the way to Small Town, heavy rain was falling steadily.
Maureen sat in the passenger seat and inadvertently caught sight of Geoffrey’s handsome profile. Her breath hitched, but she quickly averted her gaze to look out the car window.
To be honest, before she had Geoffrey, she always felt he was hard to approach.
But now, she had touched every inch of him.
As the saying goes, no matter how cold and aloof a man is, once there’s physical intimacy between them, the relationship changes.
Geoffrey also noticed her looking at him. At the rest area, he took her hand
“I’m not used to you being so quiet.”
Maureen looked at him and heard him say, “You used to have endless things to say.
Hearing this, Maureen couldn’t help but smile bitterly
“Then you must not remember when you said you didn’t like me talking too much.”

Geoffrey was taken aback.
The atmosphere in the car instantly became heavy.
Maureen thought she had said something she shouldn’t have and upset him again, so she deliberately changed the subject.
“After we pass this service area, there’s a maple forest ahead. Right now, there are lots of maple leaves, and it’s very beautiful.”
It was now early autumn. The days were getting shorter, and the weather was gradually turning cooler.
Especially when it rained.
As their car passed through the maple forest, dusk had already fallen. The rain cast an unusually dark veil over the sky, yet fluttering maple leaves remained visible as they drifted
down.
It was then that Geoffrey saw the long–absent smile grace Maureen’s face.
In that moment, he felt transported back to when he first met Maureen.
That bright and adorable little girl.
Once past the maple forest, the outside scenery faded from view.
Maureen reached for her phone but found it dead. With no alternative, she plugged it into the car charger.
Geoffrey handed her his own device.
“Use this.”
“No passcode.”
Maureen hesitated before accepting it.
Geoffrey’s phone displayed minimal apps–only work–related tools and a messaging app- without even a music player.
After browsing briefly, Maureen opened the browser to check recent news.

plagiarism.
Disbelief flooded her.
Just two days ago, Geoffrey had urged Katherine to drop the case. How could Andrea be issuing a public apology now?
He never let her suffer injustice.
While Maureen pondered this, the car entered the County Town.
Geoffrey had arranged hotel reservations in advance.
“Let’s rest for today.”
He stepped out of the car.
As they entered together, Maureen couldn’t help saying, “I just saw the news. Andrea issued a public apology.”
Not only had she publicly apologized, but she’d also taken down her songs and offered substantial compensation.
Geoffrey showed no surprise.
He’d instructed Wayne to demand this from Andrea–comply or leave Media Division.
“You were right before. Plagiarism deserves consequences.”
Geoffrey didn’t expose her as Teacher Shi, simply stating.
Maureen realized he’d changed so much.
At the hotel, she discovered he’d booked only one room.
“Are we sleeping together?”
“Otherwise?”
Geoffrey countered.
Giving her no chance to refuse, he took her wrist toward the elevator.
The porter had already delivered their luggage.

Geoffrey walked swiftly. Maureen having to jog to keep up. Reaching their door,
he scooped her up mid–stride. Before she reacted, she landed on a massive bed strewn with
blossoms.
Geoffrey leaned over her.
“From now on, ask me directly for anything. I’ll give you everything.”
He’d spend this month proving he was better than Gareth.
Maureen faked her death to leave before, and now she wants to leave me–she’ll damn well regret it!
Under the gentle light, Maureen gazed at the all–too–familiar face before her, lost for words.
Geoffrey lowered his head to kiss her forehead.
Maureen’s hand resting on the quilt tightened slightly.
“Not tonight. I’m tired.”
Geoffrey paused, then held her tighter without speaking.
Pressed against his chest, Maureen could hear his steady heartbeat.
“Geoff.”
“Mm.”
“Do you remember our first hug?”
Maureen suddenly asked.
The question made Geoffrey recall their wedding night–when she’d first embraced him.
Her father had just passed away, yet he’d pushed her aside.
Assuming she resented him, he murmured, “That won’t happen again.”
It was his rare way of owning his mistake.
