My whole body went cold as understanding crashed over me.
“So you deliberately recorded that video and put it online to drive my father to suicide? You wanted to make sure Cassian and I could never be together because there’d be blood between us?”
Selene’s eyes lit up with something like admiration. “You’re not completely stupid.”
“But that’s only part of it.”
“No matter how crazy things got online, prison communication is pretty limited. So I personally took the video to him.”
‘I told your father it was all his fault–that you were being humiliated and forced to grovel because of what he did. I said he should just die.”
‘I didn’t expect him to actually love you enough to do it. Just one night later, he was gone!”
No wonder Dad said those things before he died.

The car screeched to a halt. Doors opened.
I saw my chance and dragged Selene toward the door.
The driver rushed over to protect her and got knocked down when I slammed into him.
I leaped over their bodies, scrambled over the guardrails, and found myself at the edge of the bridge.
The water was at least fifty feet down, but I had no choice.
I looked back at them closing in and let go.
As I fell, I heard a cargo ship’s horn blaring a warning.
Panic shot through me–I thought I was about to get crushed–when a massive wave swept me aside.
The ship thundered past, but it actually provided perfect cover.
Selene and her crew assumed I was dead. From their perspective, I must have been pulverized by the ship’s propellers.
They didn’t bother searching the riverbank and quickly left the scene.
