Chapter 24 She’s Going on a Date

Yakira stepped forward and started explaining her

understanding of the new product to everyone.

She described the functions and product concepts in great detail.

Brayden leaned back in his office chair, staring at her.

He hadn’t seen Yakira in five years and she seemed a little

unfamiliar to him.

In his memory, Yakira, the heiress of the Wilkinson family,

always acted shy and meek. She never stood up for herself

when she was bullied or wronged.

She didn’t have that typical rich–girl arrogance.

But the current Yakira was not only sharp–tongued but also

assertive.

She was no longer a pushover.

She would fight back and refute when she was bullied and

wronged.

Especially now, as she stood there explaining the new product,

she seemed to be radiant.

He never knew that Yakira had such talents.

Patricia and Fiona both darkened their faces.

Fiona, in particular, even felt a sense of threat.

“That’s all,” Yakira said, looking at everyone with confidence.

“By the way, I just looked at your design proposals for the new

product. I think they don’t match the new product. Since it’s a

new phone, it would be better to incorporate the Blanchard

Group logo closer to the concept of a phone.”

After she spoke, the conference room went quiet.

Since Brayden remained silent, no one else dared to speak.

After a long pause, Brayden slowly said in a cold voice, “I want

to see your design drawings in a week.”

“Okay,” Yakira agreed readily.

Once she completed the design drawings, she could leave.

A week was perfect. She could transfer her mom to a hospital in

Peraham and then quit her job at CK Design Studio.

Then Brayden could no longer target CK Design Studio.

Brayden stood up and strode out of the conference room.

Patricia gave Yakira a deep look and quickly followed him out.

Fiona was even more hostile toward Yakira.

Yakira didn’t give it a damn. She grabbed her laptop and headed

back to her cubicle.

She stood for so long. Her legs still felt a bit numb and shaky.

She walked with a limp.

She checked the time. It was already time to clock off.

The two little ones were still at home waiting for her.

However, everyone else was working overtime, showing no

sign of leaving.

She didn’t give it a second thought. She packed her things and

was about to leave.

“Ms. Wilkinson, are you leaving now?” Fiona said coldly.

Yakira looked at her with a smile. “I’m not an employee of the

Blanchard Group. Ms. Barrera, you can’t tell me what to do,

right?”

Fiona’s face instantly fell.

“Goodbye, Ms. Barrera!” Yakira strode out and left.

As soon as Yakira walked out of the office building, she saw

Conrad standing not far from the entrance, with his car parked

nearby.

She walked over quickly. “Conrad, what are you doing here?”

“I came to pick you up from work,” Conrad said softly, opening

the car door.

Yakira didn’t refuse and got in the car.

Brayden came out just in time to see this scene. His cold face

darkened instantly.

Patricia glanced over and said, “No wonder Ms. Wilkinson was

so eager to leave. She’s going on a date.

“Bray, Polly said you haven’t had a meal with her in ages. Let’s

call Daron and go out later.”

Brayden looked cold and stern.

“Abel, Minnie, I’m home!” Yakira opened the door and walked in.

Minnie and Daron ran over to greet her.

When Daron saw Conrad coming in, the smile on his face

disappeared instantly.

“Mommy, Mr. Kirk,” Minnie said happily.

Conrad smiled and greeted softly, “Hello, Minnie, Abel.”

Daron ignored him.

Conrad furrowed his brows slightly. He always felt that Abel

was acting very strange lately.

Abel was cold and a bit hostile toward him.

This wasn’t the case when they were in Peraham.

“You must be hungry. I’ll make you something to eat,” Yakira

said with a smile.

Conrad cut in, “You’ve worked all day. You must be tired. Let’s

just eat out instead of cooking.”

“Eating out! Yay!” Minnie jumped up happily.

Seeing how excited Minnie was, Yakira didn’t want to spoil her

mood. “Alright, just give me a moment to put away my laptop.”

“You brought your laptop home?” Conrad asked, puzzled.

Yakira smiled, “Someone tampered with my laptop today and

deleted the draft I’d prepared. There were also design drawings

for collaborations with other companies. It would be a huge

hassle if they were lost.”

Luckily, only her presentation draft was deleted.

Conrad frowned and was about to say something, but Yakira

cut him off. “It’s okay.”

She didn’t want Abel and Minnie to know about her work

problems.

They were only five years old but still very perceptive.

If they sensed she was suffering, they would be really upset.

But Daron overheard her mention her laptop being tampered

with.

Conrad understood her intention, so he didn’t say anything

more.

Yakira put away her laptop and said, “Let’s go.”

“I don’t feel like going,” Daron said in a low voice.

Yakira, Conrad, and Minnie all looked at him.

Yakira stepped forward and asked softly, “Abel, what’s wrong?”

Daron shook his head. “I just don’t want to go out. Mommy, you guys can eat out. I’m not hungry.”

“Then Abel, what would you like to eat? I can bring it back for you,” Yakira asked. “How about fried chicken?”

Daron nodded.

Yakira reached out and ruffled his hair. “Okay. Be a good boy and stay home. Don’t run around. I will bring you some fried

chicken.”

“Okay.” Daron nodded.

Yakira stood up and took Minnie’s hand. “Let’s go.”

She wouldn’t force the kids to do things they didn’t want to do.

Since Abel didn’t want to go, he didn’t have to.

But she wouldn’t spoil Minnie’s mood either. Since she had

already promised Minnie they would eat out, they would go.

The kids often had different opinions, but she respected their

wishes and tried her best to satisfy them.

As soon as Yakira, Conrad, and Minnie left, Daron went to the

living room and took out Yakira’s laptop.

His fingers danced over the keyboard as he did some quick tech

stuff.

When he was done, he closed the laptop.

Now, no one could delete anything from Yakira’s laptop, and he

could even find out who messed with it.

Minnie was craving steak, so Conrad picked a kid–friendly

restaurant.

The restaurant was super fun, with toys and play areas for kids.

Minnie loved it right away, especially the ball pit and the slide in

the corner.

“Mommy, I want to play over there,” she said.

“Go ahead. I’ll call you when the food is ready,” Yakira said with

a smile.

Minnie ran over merrily.

There were several other kids playing there.

Yakira and Conrad found a spot where they could keep a good

eye on Minnie and sat down.

“Conrad, after the cooperation with the Blanchard Group ends, I

want to resign,” Yakira said.
