Am Back Ch 29
Chapter 29 Overwhelmed by Fear
Brayden furrowed his brow.
This was the first time he had seen Yakira like this.
“Yakira, it’s all over now,” he said, stepping forward to take the
shards from her hand.
If things went on like this, her hands would be ruined.
However, his proximity only seemed to provoke Yakira even
more.
Yakira swiped her hand violently, the shards cutting into
Brayden’s arm. He didn’t even flinch, forcefully taking the
pieces from her and tossing them aside.
“Bray, you’re hurt!” Patricia cried, rushing forward.
Brayden ignored her, all his attention focused entirely on
Yakira.
Yakira collapsed to the floor, hugging her head, her fear so
palpable that it consumed her.
“Yakira…” Brayden stepped forward and pulled her into his

arms.
“No… let me go… Let me go!” Yakira struggled fiercely, pushing
against him with all her strength.
Brayden held her tighter. “Yakira, it’s me, Brayden. Don’t be
afraid. It’s over now. I’m here.”
“Brayden?” Yakira froze for a moment, her eyes brimming with
tears as she looked up at him.
Brayden gazed at her too, softly repeating, “It’s me. It’s over.”
Yakira’s tense body finally relaxed.
Brayden lifted her gently into his arms.
“Deon, go get Ralph.”
“Yes, sir.”
In full view of everyone, Brayden carried Yakira into the CEO’s
exclusive elevator.
“Is Mr. Blanchard remarrying Yakira?”
“Mr. Blanchard has never carried anyone like this before.”
“Didn’t you see? Just now, Mr. Blanchard was defending Yakira

like no one else.”
The chattering gossip around her grated on Patricia’s nerves.
Patricia said, “Are you all that idle? Don’t you have work to do?”
With a sharp command, everyone quietly dispersed.
Brayden carried Yakira into the CEO’s office.
There was a resting area inside the office.
Brayden laid Yakira gently on the bed.
Shocked beyond measure, Yakira fell into a deep sleep.
Even in sleep, she was tightly wound with fear.
Brayden looked at her, his brow furrowing deeply.
This was the first time he had seen her so vulnerable.
Before, even when she was quiet and compliant, she still
maintained her dignity–proud, composed, and unyielding.
“Bray, I heard you were hurt?” Ralph walked in, shocked at the
sight of Yakira lying on the bed.
He thought he was seeing things.

Brayden turned his gaze away, coldly ordering, “Take a look at
her. Her hands are injured, and she’s been traumatized.”
“Oh,” Ralph nodded stiffly.
Just as he was about to approach, he noticed Brayden’s injury.
“You’re hurt too? Shouldn’t I tend to your wound first?”
“No. Take care of her first,” Brayden replied, his voice cold.
Ralph raised an eyebrow but proceeded to check Yakira’s
injuries.
He disinfected and bandaged her hands.
Seeing that she was still distressed even in her sleep, he injected
a sedative to calm her.
Soon, Yakira settled into a deep, peaceful sleep.
“How is she?” Brayden asked.
Ralph answered, “She’s fine. The injury to her hand isn’t deep.
The trauma she suffered, though, needed a sedative. She’ll wake
up fine after a good rest.”
Brayden’s tightly furrowed brows slowly relaxed.
“Her hand injuries aren’t as severe as yours,” Ralph added,

glancing at Brayden’s hand.
Brayden finally noticed the deep gash on his hand, blood
dripping from it. The sight of it was chilling.
Ralph cleaned and bandaged the wound.
“So, what exactly happened?” Ralph asked, curious.
Brayden didn’t bother answering, instead signaling for Ralph to
leave. “You can go now.
om!
“Is that how you’re going to repay me?” Ralph shouted in
frustration.
TH
“Deon,” Brayden called. w
Deon stepped forward and quickly ushered Ralph out.
Brayden said, “Notify everyone–no one is allowed in without
my permission.”
“Yes, sir,” Deon replied.
8-1:1
Brayden sat by the bed, looking at Yakira, who was still asleep.
She felt like she had just woken up from a long nightmare.
In the dream, she was surrounded by a group of men, their

lecherous eyes focused on her.
But it wasn’t just a dream–it was something that had really
happened, and just the memory of it made her shiver.
Brayden had thrown her onto the street, telling her to go home
alone.
It was the dead of night, the roads deserted, and even the
streetlights were dim.
She had fought to suppress her fear, taking one step after
another.
Suddenly, four or five men jumped out of the woods, leering at
her.
“Miss, what are you doing out here alone so late? Where are you
headed?”
“It’s not safe for a young lady to be out alone this late. How
about we escort you home?”
Yakira turned and bolted in fear, but in her high heels, there
was no way she could outrun the fit and muscular men.
She was quickly surrounded.
“Don’t come any closer, or I’ll call the police!” Yakira said, her

voice trembling.
She pulled out her phone, but before she could dial, they
snatched it away.
“Miss, don’t be scared. We’re just trying to help.”
“We’re just escorting you home.”
The men kept getting closer.
“No… don’t come any closer,” Yakira woke up from the
nightmare, her body shaking.
Leaning against the chair, Brayden, who had just dozed off, was
startled awake by her scream.
“Yakira.”
His voice pulled Yakira’s thoughts back to the present.
She looked around, confused by the familiar yet strange
surroundings.
She wondered, “Is this Brayden’s office?”
Yakira recalled what had just happened.
She remembered that Brayden had come for her.
Chapter 29 Overwhelmed by Fear
She thought, “Has he been the one to help me?”
“Did you save me just now?” Yakira asked, looking at Brayden.
“You’ve got some nerve, smashing my company’s vase and
fighting like that,” Brayden responded sarcastically.
Yakira thought, “How could Brayden have helped me? He must
have done it to save face for the Blanchard Group.”
Yakira coldly replied, “I’ll pay for the vase. But as for The
Blanchard Group, if you can’t manage development, then don’t
start it. If the agreement doesn’t stand, then let it be null and
void.”
If they hadn’t delayed the payment and let Normand and Cecil
make a scene, things wouldn’t have escalated to this point.
She knew Normand and Cecil well–they only bully the weak
and fear the strong.
Seeing that The Blanchard Group didn’t kick them out, they had
the audacity to come and make trouble.
“What agreement?” Brayden furrowed his brow.
Yakira sneered, “Mr. Blanchard, stop pretending.”
If he hadn’t authorized it, would The Blanchard Group have
Chapter 29 Overwhelmed by Fear
withheld the payment?
“Yakira, I helped you just now,” Brayden reminded her angrily.
This woman was truly ungrateful–he helped her, and she didn’t
even thank him, just throwing insults at him.
Yakira reluctantly said, “Mr. Blanchard, thank you for your
help just now.“”
With that, she left the office.
Seeing her so cold and indifferent, Brayden was furious.
He yanked at his tie, saying, “Deon, find out what agreement
Yakira is talking about.”
Deon quickly replied, “Mrs. Blanchard mentioned the Midvale
Village relocation agreement. This was something you assigned
to Ms. McDowell to handle.”
“Find out exactly what’s going on,” Brayden coldly ordered.
“Ms. McDowell is right outside. Should I have her come in?”
Deon asked.
