Am Back Ch 30
Chapter 30 A True Scoundrel
Yakira opened the office door and came face to face with
Patricia, who was standing outside.
Their gazes locked.
“Ms. McDowell, Mr. Blanchard is expecting you.” Deon’s voice
broke the silence.
Patricia gave a slight nod before brushing past Yakira.
Yakira glanced back but turned and walked away with swift
steps.
“Bray, how’s your hand? Are you alright?”
Patricia stepped in, her voice laced with concern.
Brayden coldly replied, “I told you, call me Mr. Blanchard at the
office.”
Patricia paused, taken aback.
He had asked for this before, but never with such insistence.
“Yes,” she murmured.

Brayden gave her a brief glance, then asked, “What’s going on
with the Midvale Village demolition? Why are people from
there causing trouble?”
“I was about to explain that to you,” Patricia said.
Her tone became serious, projecting the air of a capable and
assertive woman.
Patricia explained, “Most of the demolitions in Midvale Village
have gone smoothly, but not the property under Ms.
Wilkinson’s name. Although the house is officially in her name,
it’s been occupied by her uncle Normand and his family for
years.”
“They refuse to move. I’ve spoken to Ms. Wilkinson about it. She
said she’d handle it. We agreed that once the people in the house
move out, we’ll make the payment. Ms. Wilkinson agreed to
this,” she added.
Th
“When did we start dragging its feet like this? The property
owner has already signed. Why all these excuses now?”
Brayden snapped.
Patricia’s voice carried a hint of frustration. “Mr. Blanchard, I
don’t know what Ms. Wilkinson told you. When we signed the
contract, she specifically asked us not to use force because she
wanted to save face for her family. She said she would take care

of it. Given how fast things spread online nowadays, kicking
someone out by force would only backfire. That’s why I
ultimately went along with Ms. Wilkinson’s proposal.“”
“If Ms. Wilkinson has any difficulties, she can come directly to
- me. The company will cooperate with her to resolve it. But she
didn’t say anything and then this whole mess happened. I know
this isn’t the time for excuses, and it’s my fault for not being
more diligent at work. I’ll accept the company’s punishment.””
Patricia said these last words with conviction.
Even if she accepted the company’s punishment, she didn’t feel
it was her fault.

Brayden’s expression remained cold, but his anger seemed to
have eased slightly.
“Alright, proceed with the demolition according to the
company’s procedures,” he said.
Patricia thought, “Is Brayden defending Yakira?”
Patricia’s hand, which hung by her side, clenched tightly around
her clothes, suppressing her emotions. She replied,
“Understood.”
As soon as Yakira returned to the Design Department, Fiona
blocked her path.
Chapter 30 A True Scoundrel
Fiona said, “Ms. Wilkinson, your dealings with the Blanchard
Group aren’t my concern, but I cannot stand by when it affects
the company’s image. Do you realize that because of you, the
entire Design Department has become a laughingstock within
the company? Please handle your family matters properly and
stop bringing them to the company!”
“Don’t worry, there won’t be a next time,” Yakira coldly replied
and walked back to her desk.
Fiona, seeing her dismissive attitude, fumed in frustration.
Yakira sat down at her desk, took out her phone, and sent a
message to her best friend, Thelma, “Thelma, when are you
coming back to Retston?”
As soon as the message was sent, Thelma’s call came through.
“What’s up? Miss me?”
“Yeah,” Yakira smiled.
Thelma asked, “When are you getting off work?”
Yakira paused. “You’re back?”
“I’m at the restaurant across from the Blanchard Group. I’ve
already made a reservation, just waiting for you to finish work.”
Chapter 30 A True Scoundrel
“You’re here already, and you didn’t tell me?” Yakira said as she
stood and started packing up.
“I didn’t want to interrupt your work,” Thelma replied.
“I don’t belong to the Blanchard Group and I don’t have any time
restrictions. I’ll be over soon,” Yakira said as she hung up the
phone, grabbed her things, and left.
She couldn’t do much at the office with her hand injured
anyway.
Just as she exited the Design Department, Patricia walked up to
her.
“Ms. Wilkinson, are you heading out?”
“Mm,” Yakira responded indifferently.
Patricia said, “Ms. Wilkinson, I’ve been given clear instructions.
If you can’t get your relatives to leave the house, we can’t make
the payment.“”
She added, “Sorry things got so out of hand today. I even
brought it up with Brayden and asked if the company could
step in – but he was adamant. With how fast news spreads
online now, any wrong move could hurt the company’s image.
Especially forced evictions. If this isn’t handled properly, it’ll
Chapter 30 A True Scoundrel
cause significant damage to the company”
“I understand. I’ll take care of it. Please ensure you fulfill your
promise and make the payment once the matter is resolved,”
Yakira said coldly and left without showing any emotion.
Patricia watched her walk away, a sly smile curling at the
corner of her mouth.
After leaving the company, Yakira headed straight for the
restaurant across the street.
“Kira, over here!” Thelma waved as Yakira entered.
Thelma was dressed in sporty clothes, standing out in the
restaurant.
Yakira saw her immediately and quickly walked over.
As soon as she arrived, Thelma gave her a big hug. “Darling, I’ve
missed you so much.”
Yakira returned the hug.
The two hadn’t seen each other in five years.
Since Yakira left, they hadn’t met, but they kept in touch by
phone.
Chapter 30 A True Scoundrel
Thelma immediately noticed Yakira’s injured hand. “What
happened to your hand?”
“Just a small cut, nothing serious,” Yakira replied briefly.
Thelma didn’t seem convinced.
“It’s really fine,” Yakira smiled.
Thelma stopped questioning her and sat back down. She then
looked Yakira up and down and said, “Kira, you look even more
beautiful. I told you, women get better when they leave a
scoundrel.”
As Yakira’s best friend, Thelma couldn’t stand Brayden.
To her, Brayden was the epitome of a scoundrel.
Yakira chuckled.
“Come on, I’ve ordered your favorite foie gras and caviar.”
Thelma moved the dish closer to Yakira’s side.
“When did you come back? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t be back
for another week?” Yakira asked as she ate.
Being with Thelma made her feel completely at ease.
Chapter 30 A True Scoundrel
Thelma joked, “You said you’d be back in a week, so I had to
rush back. Otherwise, I’d miss you again.”
Though Peraham and Retston weren’t too far apart, Thelma
hadn’t visited Yakira for all these years, just to keep Brayden
from finding out where Yakira was.
“By the way, you said you needed to talk to me. What’s up?”
Thelma asked, curious.
