Chapter 4 They’re all sharp cookies.
William Adler looked at her, “Scarlett, have you ever resented Grandpa? If it weren’t for the arranged marriage
with the Hodges Family, you wouldn’t have…”
“Marrying him was my own choice, and so was the divorce. Grandpa, you never forced me!” Scarlett Adler
said.
William Adler always felt guilty about this. If it weren’t for him, he wouldn’t have ruined her life.
“Scarlett…”
“Alright, Grandpa, it’s all in the past. You don’t need to blame yourself for my affairs. Besides, marrying
anyone doesn’t guarantee a lifetime of happiness. And besides, heaven gave us three such adorable children,
isn’t that great?” Scarlett Adler asked.
Knowing she was comforting him, but that they needed to move forward, William Adler nodded. “You’re right.
No matter what, the children are Adlers. Grandpa will do whatever it takes to provide for you!”
Scarlett Adler walked over, took his arm, and rested her head on his shoulder. “Grandpa, you don’t need to do
whatever it takes. I’ve made some money overseas over the years, enough for us to live on. You should move
out of the old house and live with us.”
William Adler turned to look at her.
Scarlett Adler immediately assured him, “The money is absolutely legal and clean!”
William Adler finally breathed a sigh of relief. “Scarlett, don’t blame Grandpa. I can’t go through what happened back then again…”
“Don’t worry, I’ve always listened to you, living well, working hard, and staying by your side!”
William Adler smiled. “I never saw you act spoiled before, but now you’ve learned how to be!”
“Fourth said that spoiled women have the best lives!”

Monday.
William Adler was about to get up to make breakfast when he saw that the three children were already dressed and ready. Fourth Adler even ran to Scarlett’s room and rummaged through her closet, “Scarlett,
wear this outfit today. Most of the people in the programming department are men and they like this cute and
sexy style. They shouldn’t give you too much trouble. Good luck today!”
Scarlett threw a pillow at him, but Fourth dodged it nimbly, continuing nonchalantly, “We’ll debrief tonight. I’m
off now!”
Scarlett, annoyed, pulled the covers over her head and went back to sleep.
As Fourth Adler came out, she said, “Grandpa, Scarlett will definitely sleep in, so we can just leave after
breakfast.”
Looking at his three sensible grandchildren, William Adler was filled with affection.
After breakfast, William took the three children to school. On the way, he couldn’t help but ask, “Fourth,
shouldn’t you be Third? How did you end up being called Fourth?”
Hearing this, Second Adler couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “That’s because Mommy doesn’t like the
number three, so she gave the name ‘Third’ to a dog we have in London. So…”
“Second brother, I’m going to get angry if you say another word!” Fourth Adler warned.
“Alright, alright, I won’t say anything!” Second Adler wisely shut his mouth, knowing that he wouldn’t have a
good time if he provoked his sister.
William understood what was going on and chuckled along.
“Grandpa, does Mommy dislike the number three because of Daddy?” First Adler suddenly asked.
William paused, looking at First’s face in the rearview mirror, which resembled Hugo Hodges. This child seemed quiet but was actually incredibly perceptive.

Second Adler and Fourth Adler fell silent upon hearing this, both turning their gaze toward William Adler.
William Adler didn’t want to lie to the children, but he truly didn’t know how to answer the question. “Well, I’m
not really sure either. If you want to know, you’ll have to ask your mom!”
“Grandpa, you must know who our dad is, right?” Second Adler asked.
William Adler remained silent.
“Grandpa’s silence means he agrees!” Fourth Adler added.
William Adler was at a loss for words.
The three children, with their back-and-forth questioning, were making him anxious.
“Alright, don’t make Grandpa uncomfortable. There must be a reason why he’s not saying. Besides, we have
Mom, and that’s enough,” First Adler said, displaying the authority of the eldest. Second Adler and Fourth
Adler didn’t press further.
Seeing that they had stopped asking, William Adler quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
These three little ones looked harmless, but he sensed that none of them were simple.
Scarlett Adler slept until her alarm went off.
After washing up, she put on the “battle dress” Fourth Adler had prepared for her, but looking at herself in the
mirror, she couldn’t help but frown.
The pink dress, with a hint of uniform style, accentuated her curves in a way that was both sexy and cute. But wearing it out? She’d be mortified!
But if she didn’t wear it, she knew Fourth’s temper. She’d never hear the end of it.
So, she found a black blazer-style dress in the closet and wore it over the pink dress. That should tone it
down a bit.

Once she was ready, Scarlett Adler headed straight to the office.

Scarlett’s stunning beauty had already spread throughout the company, and many who hadn’t seen her were
eager to catch a glimpse.
As soon as she walked into the office, she could feel the different gazes from all around, some good, some
bad.
“Did
you see her? That’s her. Pretty, right? I heard she wasn’t even wearing makeup when she came that day!”
said a colleague.
“Tsk, tsk, dressing like that for work. It’s obvious she’s not serious about working. And you guys made her
sound like an angel. I don’t think she’s all that,” said another colleague.
“Exactly, saying she’s not wearing makeup? She’s probably doing it on purpose. It’s probably a ‘natural’ look.
Men can’t tell, but we can see through it. She’s probably just trying to get attention.”
“Really?” a third colleague wondered.
There were many men in the programming department, but it wasn’t the only department. Fourth Adler was
clearly making enemies for herself!
Scarlett Adler didn’t think much of it and went straight to report for duty. Fortunately, she had been there that
day and knew her way around. After getting everything sorted, the manager led her to her workstation.
“Scarlett, this will be your spot from now on!”
Scarlett’s position was quite unique, not very close to anyone else, more like an independent station. She didn’t know that this was the unanimous decision of the programming department, because no one wanted her close to them. So, they created this isolated spot.
“Thank you, manager.”
“No need to thank me. Just work hard. You’ve come at the right time. A big client is coming today, and if we can land the deal, you’ll be our company’s lucky star!” the manager said excitedly.
Scarlett smiled, not taking it too seriously.

Just then, the manager’s phone rang. He saw the number and immediately became excited. “Scarlett, get to
know East Hayes and the others first. You can come along later to see what’s happening and learn
something. I’ll talk to you later, the big client is here, I have to go greet them.” With that, he hurried off.
Scarlett was confused.
Before she even had a chance to sit down, a man named East Hayes approached her. “Hello, I’m East Hayes!”
“Hello!” Scarlett Adler politely extended her hand.
East Hayes didn’t seem interested in a handshake, and his tone was more of a warning. “Today’s project is
very important to me. You can observe and learn, but I hope you won’t interfere or mess things up.” With that,
he turned and walked away.
Scarlett Adler was left feeling snubbed.
