Chapter 8 In the eye of the storm.

Manager Yan was sipping water as he opened the group chat on WeChat, wondering why there were so many
messages.
But the next moment, when he clicked on the picture, he spat out the water everywhere.
What was going on?
Hugo Hodges was holding Scarlett Adler’s hand? Did they know each other?
And judging by their actions, they were very close. So, what was really happening?
His instructions hadn’t worked?
Manager Yan’s mind was filled with question marks. Connecting it to the previous project, his keen sense told
him that there was definitely something fishy going on between them.
Manager Yan started to get anxious. If Scarlett Adler could climb up the ladder, that would be one thing, but
if she couldn’t, then their company would be in trouble with a big shot.
In the programming department, many young men’s budding feelings were nipped in the bud.
Sure enough, beautiful women all belonged to rich men.
Although they didn’t know the specifics, they could all tell that there was something special between them.
As soon as Scarlett Adler walked back, she was stopped by a few girls at the front desk. “Ms. Adler, what’s your relationship with Mr. Hodges?”
Scarlett Adler frowned. Did the gossip spread that fast?
“No relationship,” she said.

“But someone saw Mr. Hodges holding your hand… Are you two dating?” the receptionist asked, looking at
her.
Scarlett Adler thought for a moment and said with a smile, “How could that be? It’s a misunderstanding. Mr. Hodges just thinks I look like a friend of his and mistook me for her.”
“Really?”
Scarlett Adler nodded, confirming, “Yes!”
Before her gossiping colleagues could react, Scarlett Adler quickly walked into the programming department.
That’s one thing that wasn’t great about being back home: everyone was too nosy.
However, as soon as she stepped into the design department, she was greeted with all sorts of strange
looks.
Before she could say anything, East Hayes’ voice came from behind, “Scarlett Adler, this has something to do
with you, doesn’t it?”
Scarlett Adler turned around to see East Hayes looking like he was about to charge at her. People around
them quickly stepped in to stop him, saying, “East Hayes, don’t be rash.”
Scarlett Adler, however, wasn’t afraid. She looked at him and said, “I don’t know if the decision over there has
anything to do with me, but I’ve never provoked anyone. And when you question me, think about whether your
project is really perfect.”
East Hayes sneered, “Are you saying that our project isn’t perfect, and that’s why this happened?”
“Yes,” Scarlett Adler said.
“What do you even know?” East Hayes shouted. “Our project took a week to complete and was specifically tailored to the Hodges Family’s needs. I wouldn’t say it’s the best, but it’s definitely the most suitable among
many companies. What does a woman like you know?”
“The success of a project isn’t always about how long it took. Time is just one factor, not the key. The Hodges

As soon as Scarlett finished speaking, East was stunned.
It seemed like she had hit the nail on the head.

ore East could react, someone walked in and said, “Ms. Adler, the manager wants to see you.”
carlett nodded, not saying anything more to East, and turned to leave.
Ethan Underwood and Brent Carter comforted East, but they didn’t think the Hodges Family Group would
really make a decision based on what a woman said.
In the manager’s office,
Scarlett Adler repeated the explanation she had given to the receptionist earlier to the manager.
Having seen and dealt with countless people, the manager was still skeptical.
After leaving the manager’s office, Scarlett sighed in resignation.
She had simply wanted to have a simple job, but it seemed even that was difficult.
Indeed, nothing good ever came from encountering Hugo Hodges.
Just then, her phone rang. Seeing that it was Fourth Adler calling, Scarlett’s mood lifted slightly.
“Are you out of school?”
“Yes, Mommy. When do you get off work?” Fourth said sweetly over the phone.
Scarlett glanced at the time. “Soon, in about half an hour.”
“Mommy, how was work today? Any admirers?”
Admirers? Right now, everyone probably wanted to stay far away from her.
“Dream on. Your mommy is like a plague right now!” Scarlett said.
“I don’t believe it. Mommy, you had such a long line of admirers overseas.”
“Maybe people in this country have more unique tastes?”
“Okay, get to the point,” First Adler urged on the other end of the line.
“Okay, Mommy, what would you like to eat? Grandpa and I are going to buy groceries later.”
“Anything is fine, but I might be a bit late coming home.”
“Why?”
“I’m going to visit a friend,” Scarlett Adler said. “I’ll probably be about an hour late.”
“Okay, got it. I’ll tell Grandpa.”
“Okay!”
“That’s it then, Mommy, bye-bye.”
“Bye-bye.”
Listening to Fourth Adler’s sweet voice on the other end of the phone, Scarlett’s mood improved considerably.
Indeed, her precious children always knew how to heal her.
When she returned to the programming department, everyone was quietly working.
Scarlett knew that many people were likely dissatisfied or had various speculations about her.
Scarlett didn’t bother explaining and sat down to continue working.
An hour later.
Scarlett appeared at the hospital.
“Excuse me, is West Hayes admitted here?” Scarlett asked.
It happened to be West’s attending physician who was at the information desk. “Yes, what about it?”
“I’m a friend of her brother’s. I’m here to help pay for the surgery.”
Upon hearing this, the doctor immediately perked up, “Finally! Any longer, and the chances of success would only decrease.”
Scarlett Adler remained silent, simply taking out her card to pay.
“Didn’t his brother say it would take another two weeks to raise the money? How did they get it so quickly?”
the doctor asked while arranging the payment details.
Scarlett Adler shook her head. “I’m not sure either.”
The doctor glanced at Scarlett Adler, and seeing that she didn’t seem keen on chatting, he didn’t press
further.

After making the payment, Scarlett Adler left in a hurry without waiting for the doctor to say anything.
Watching her retreating figure, the doctor frowned, thinking, “That’s strange.”
In the inpatient ward, a girl of about twelve years old sat on a chair, looking pale and weak. She was basking
in the sun, sending messages on her phone.
“Brother, don’t worry about me. I’m fine. Take care of yourself and don’t work too hard!”
“I know, I’ll come to see you in a couple of days. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely raise the money for your treatment!”
“Ah, this little girl is so pitiful. She got leukemia at such a young age. Although there’s a suitable bone
marrow donor, they can’t afford the surgery fees,” a nurse suddenly said to Scarlett Adler, who was standing
nearby.
Scarlett Adler glanced at her but didn’t say anything.
“Are you here to visit her?” the nurse asked, noticing her standing there for a long time.
“No!” Scarlett said, turning to leave.
The nurse shrugged it off and walked over to the patient. “West Hayes, alright, it’s getting late. Time to go
back to your room and rest!”
