“Ms. Scott, this wasn’t our life. We had the ability, we had the skills, so why did we let ourselves live in pain?”
“Ms. Scott, you belonged on the brightest stage in the design world. This place was nice too, but Ms. Scott, it just wasn’t time to retire yet.”
Veronica suddenly felt clear inside, she understood, she already understood last night, and now she heard what Seryna said.
She, Veronica–still wanted to stand on that brightest stage in the world.

Seryna stayed with Veronica and talked until the afternoon, then went back to find Calbert.
She was going to treat Calbert to dinner tonight.
She had just gotten to the building when she saw Calbert’s car waiting by the road.
Seryna told Yadira to go back first, then got into Calbert’s car.
Calbert was looking at some files when he saw Seryna come in. He rubbed his tired eyes. When he looked down, his eyes seemed to be covered with melted moonlight. The sharpness at the corners of his eyes softened quietly. When he looked at Seryna, his gaze seemed to hold all the stars, and even his breath was full of gentle warmth.
“Sera, you’re back. Tired?” When he spoke, the end of his words trembled

softly past my ear, even gentler than a spring night breeze.
A gentle voice, smooth like honey, wrapped around her. The soft ending of each word slid into her ears and down to her heart, stirring up ripples in Seryna’s chest, like fine cracks suddenly spreading across a lake covered in winter snow. Even her breathing was filled with a delicate
sweetness.
Seryna’s face turned red right away, “Cal, you were so gentle?”

and gently asked, “Does Sera like it?”
Calbert gave a slight smile
Seryna nodded quickly, “Like it, like it, I really liked how gentle Cal
was.”
Calbert looked at her smiling, she was really cute. He pointed at his handsome face, “Sera, if you like me, show it. Let me really feel how much you like me.”
Seryna found out that he really liked kissing.
She smiled with her eyes, blushed, and gave Calbert a quick kiss on the cheek.
There was still a soft feeling on Calbert’s cheek. He smiled gently, feeling happy all over, like he was wrapped up in her warmth. It was like a spring breeze came in the night, and thousands of pear trees bloomed.
That long–lost feeling made him really happy.
Calbert lowered her eyes. She remembered a line she’d read in a book: A young heart’s flutter, the midsummer night’s wild field, you can’t cut it all or burn it out. When the wind blows, the wild grass reaches the sky.
Still remembered that summer, the shy, innocent smile of the girl.
That was his Seryna.
