Hearing my husband’s inner voice Ch 8
The north wind was bitterly cold.
Countless possibilities flashed through my mind.
In the end, only one thought remained.
Mike and I were contract spouses, and by all rights, we shouldn’t question each other’s private affairs.
But I despise deception.
Just as I was about to step forward and ask for clarity, Emma let go of Mike and stood protectively in front of him.
Like a sharp hedgehog, she said:
“Sarah Johnson, your three-year contract with Brother Mike is about to expire. Who he likes and who he wants to be with is none of your business.”
In this positioning, her words were like telling me bluntly:
She and Mike were a match made in heaven.
I was the third wheel.
But what she said didn’t matter.
I needed to hear it from Mike himself.
I looked at Mike and asked, “Is that true? You don’t like me at all?”
Emma immediately looked up at Mike.
The cold wind had turned her face pale, her bright eyes full of expectation.
She carefully placed her hand in Mike’s palm.
Mike looked conflicted but ultimately didn’t pull away.
Finally, he sighed and said to me, “Could you go inside first?”
Emma smiled sweetly, firmly holding Mike’s hand like a victorious kitten.
Something broke in that moment.
My heart was torn open, and the howling wind kept pouring in.
Even though Mike’s expression was uneasy, even pleading.
