Marked by the man I Must Hate Novel Ch 10
The car continued on its path when, out of nowhere, a motorcycle shot out from the intersection and bullets smashed through the car window. Gunfire erupted all around us.
Both Mateo and Leon were consumed by fury, intent on eliminating each other. However, this was Leon’s domain. Mateo had no choice but to get me to safety first. We zigzagged through the streets and found refuge in an alleyway.
Even though he had been hit in the abdomen by a stray bullet, he reassured me, “Don’t worry. I’ll
sure you get home safely.”
I looked quietly, memories from the past racing through my mind.
I sighed and said, “Mateo, I’ve told you, we can’t turn back time. The moment you fell in love with Mandy, our fate was sealed.”
Kneeling beside him, I spoke calmly, “A long time ago, I had a dream. In it, I tore up the divorce papers you gave me. I didn’t want your 40% shares. I was consumed by deep reluctance and resentment. You drove me to the edge for her, and in the end, you even threatened me with my brother’s life, ultimately taking the life of our child yourself,
“I still can’t shake that dream, Mateo. If I had confronted you that day when I saw you with her at the prenatal check–up, do you think that dream would have become reality?”
He was at a loss for words. We both understood these were actions within
his reach.
When he cared for someone, he would do anything for them. However, if he doesn’t, even witnessing their demise won’t elicit a reaction from him.

“It was only a dream, Lina. I won’t harm you. Things will improve once we’re back home, I assure you, alright?”
I shook my head, freeing myself from the tattered ropes. I drew the gun I had grabbed during the struggle, aimed at his thigh, and fired without a second thought.
The shot rang out loudly.
He didn’t even flinch or make a sound, ignoring the wound.
The rain resumed its steady fall. Leon arrived from afar and held an umbrella over me. It felt like everything had reverted to how it was a decade ago.
“Don’t go, Lina, don’t go..
“Don’t leave me here alone! Lina, no!”
As Mateo watched me walk away, he suddenly became frantic, yelling and trying to crawl after me.
But this time, I didn’t turn back. Not even once.
Three years later, I realized my musical dream by performing solo for the first time in a Vienna concert hall.
As I bowed, the audience burst into loud applause. I briefly froze when I spotted Mandy in the crowd.
Following the concert, she approached me with her child, handed me a bouquet, and shared that she had become a music teacher.
We exchanged smiles.
The events of the past were behind us.
