Midnight Call Ch 45
Elijah’s grip on the glass tightened, the gentle friction louder than his inner turmoil. Still, he remained silent, staring down at the drink as if it held some answer.[]
“Come on, say something,” another friend urged, impatiently shoving him. “Don’t tell me you actually like her? She was just a practice toy, right? You’ve always liked Tiffany.“[]
Elijah’s brow furrowed tighter as a surge of frustration ignited in him, his chest heavy with conflict. He opened his mouth to argue but couldn’t get a single word out.[]
At that moment, a usually quiet friend suddenly spoke up, his voice soft yet commanding some attention.
“Honestly, falling in love with Kendall isn’t that strange, you know.“[]
He paused a hint of nostalgia in his tone. “She’s beautiful, skilled in bed, kind, and caring. Remember last year when Elijah had a fever? She cut her business trip short and took care of him for three straight days, barely sleeping. And that time after our party, when everyone was passed out, she took care of all the drunk guys without a single complaint. Don’t forget when Elijah’s rival tried to pick a fight with him, she grabbed a bottle and defended him, hitting the guy hard. A woman like that? No wonder anyone would like her.“]
Pausing for effect, he added, a hint of envy in his voice, “If Elijah hadn’t gotten there first, I would’ve gone after her too.“[]
Elijah’s expression darkened instantly, his grip tightening around his wine glass until it creaked. He whipped his head around, glaring at the man, his voice as cold as ice. “What did you say?“||]
The man flinched at his gaze but quickly found his own rage, defiantly retorting, “Why not? You think she’s just a practice tool, right? Once you get Tiffany, you won’t care about her anymore. Are you really expecting her to live alone forever?“]]
“Dare you say that again!”
Elijah sprang to his feet, smashing his wine glass onto the floor, shards scattering everywhere.[]
His eyes flashed with an anger never seen before, as if he had hit a nerve.[]
The man, equally fired up, charged at Elijah and grabbed his collar. “Did I say something wrong? You’re just playing with her, aren’t you? All this tough guy act for what?“]]
In an instant, they were locked in a brawl, the sound of fists hitting flesh mixing with the crash of glass, and chaos erupted around
them.
Others rushed in to break it up, shouting as they pulled them apart, “Enough. You guys have been brothers for over twenty years. What’s this all for a woman?“]
“And that woman is Kendall. She’s left and isn’t coming back to Northland. What’s the point of this fight?“[]
Elijah was held back by several people, his chest heaving with anger, his glare still fixed on the man as if he could burn him alive.[]
One older brother sighed, patting Elijah’s shoulder and saying in a serious tone, “Elijah, tomorrow we’re setting up Tiffany’s birthday party as a confession party. You need to figure out who you really like. There’s no going back from this.“[]
Elijah’s breathing gradually slowed, but his thoughts were a jumble.[]
He shut his eyes and memories of his time with Kendall flooded his mind.[]

Chapter 11
Her smile as she helped him tie his tie, the way she curled up in his arms while sleeping, her busying herself in the kitchen, the way her eyes reddened when he teased her in bed…]
Those images replayed like a movie in his head, each frame painfully clear.
But when he opened his eyes, the words that came out were: “I like Tiffany. That hasn’t changed. I was just drunk.”
With that, he turned and rushed out of the club, his back looking a bit frantic as if he were trying to escape.[]
Back at the apartment, Elijah stood at the door, pulling out his keys to unlock it, only to find the lock had been changed.[]
He paused for a moment, then knocked firmly on the door.
It swung open almost immediately, revealing a stranger who frowned, asking. “Who’re you looking for?“[]
Elijah’s face fell. “This is Kendall’s place. Who are you?“]
The guy hesitated before replying impatiently, “Kendall? Oh, you mean the previous owner? She sold this place to me. It’s mine now. What do you want?”
