Midnight Call Ch 53
Elijah was dragged outside the wedding venue by security, the heavy door shutting behind him with a definitive thud, shutting out the lively celebration. He stood there, but he could still hear everything inside the officiant announcing the ring exchange, guests erupting into laughter, and that soft, yet heart–wrenching sound of a kiss.]
His heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, the pain almost too much to bear. He pounded on the door, hoarsely shouting. “Open up! Please! Kendall, don’t marry him. I’m begging you. Please don’t do it.”
But the people on the other side seemed oblivious to his pleas, or perhaps they just didn’t care to respond. The wedding went on, laughter and cheers piercing his heart like sharp knives.]
With his forehead pressed against the cold door, tears streamed down his face uncontrollably. He never imagined he would have to humble himself so much just to ask for someone’s forgiveness.]
Before coming here, he had thought of so many ways to win her back, even considering kneeling or using any method to make her see him again.
But now, hearing her vow to another, he realized he no longer had a right to try and win her back.[]
“Kendall, don’t do this. I truly understand my mistakes. Don’t marry someone else. Please!“]]
His voice faded into a whisper, almost a sob. Yet no one from inside acknowledged him, as if he were simply an irrelevant stranger.]]
He regretted waking up to his feelings too late, regretted not realizing sooner, regretted not cherishing her.
But now, it was all too late.]]
Time ticked on, and finally, the door creaked open. Haley stepped out, her expression as cold as ice. She walked up to Elijah and slapped him hard, her voice dripping with anger and disappointment. “Elijah. What’s going on with you and Kendall? Tell me everything. Didn’t you like Tiffany? How could you be with Kendall?.=“]
Elijah turned his face from the slap, feeling the sting but almost not registering it.[]
He looked back up at her, his eyes filled with pain and regret. “Haley, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have used Kendall as a tool to get over Tiffany. I don’t even like Tiffany anymore. I’ve been in love with Kendall for a long time. Please help me get her back. Without her, I can’t live.“]
Used her as a practice tool?]
Haley trembled with rage, pointing a finger at him and shouting, “You have the nerve to ask for my help? Kendall is my best friend. You think you can just toy with her emotions? How dare you!“[]
But Elijah seemed to ignore her scolding, still pleading desperately, “Please, help me. She wouldn’t move on so fast. She’s just mad at me. Talk to her for me, please?“]
Haley was furious, nearly losing control, and shouted, “Mad? How ridiculous! Elijah, you’re overestimating yourself. Kendall has been into Marcel for a long time. Didn’t you notice you two look kind of alike? She wasn’t with you because she liked you. She probably just saw a bit of Marcel in you.“[]
Elijah’s face grew pale, his mind racing as if something fundamental had just crumbled.[]
“No, that can’t be. It’s not possible!” he exclaimed as he shook his head, suppressing the disbelief.[]
Chapter 18
Haley watched him coldly, a hint of disdain in her tone. “Not possible? Wake up, Elijah. Kendall has already moved on. The person she loves now is Marcel. No matter how much you plead, she won’t give you a second glance.“]
Elijah, however, seemed deaf to her words, still gripping Haley’s hand with desperation. “Sis, help me. I really know I was wrong. I can’t live without her.“[]
Haley was so furious she felt dizzy. She forcefully shook off Elijah’s hand, her voice cracking with frustration. “Elijah, get a grip. Get back to Northland right now. If you don’t, I’ll make our parents drag you back.“[]
Elijah continued to fixate on the wedding venue, his eyes filled with desperate longing, seemingly oblivious to everything else.
Haley, shaking with anger, turned to leave, but the sound of hurried footsteps behind her made her look back.[]
She saw Elijah rushing towards the parking lot like a maniac.]
Kendall and Marcel were about to get into their car when Elijah lunged at the window, grabbing Kendall’s hand with a trembling voice. “Kendall, where are you going?”
Kendall glared at him coolly, a hint of mockery in her tone. “I’ve finished my wedding. What do you think I’m going to do? Of course, I’m heading to my home.“]]
Elijah’s face went pale, his heart felt like it was being crushed. “Kendall, what can I do to make you forgive me? I’ll kneel, okay? I’m begging you. Please don’t treat me like this.“]
He dropped to his knees, the sound echoing with immense pain and regret.]
Such a proud person, reduced to begging.
Yet Kendall never looked at him again, simply shaking off his grip decisively. “Elijah, it’s over. Please stop pursuing me.”
