Midnight Call Ch 54
The wedding car began to move, the sound of the wheels rolling felt like a hammer pounding against Elijah’s heart.]
In a frenzy, he stumbled after the car, shouting hoarsely, “Kendall! Kendall! Don’t go. I was wrong. I truly understand now. Please
forgive me.
His figure appeared utterly disheveled, hair blowing wildly in the wind, staggering yet driven by desperate determination. He shouted with all his might, “Kendall! Kendall“]
Each shout was filled with despair and regret, each cry a plea for Kendall’s forgiveness.[]
Elijah had no idea how long he had been running. His legs felt as heavy as lead, and his breathing became increasingly rapid and labored. With every gasp, a sharp pain pierced his chest, making him feel like he was on the brink of falling apart–of dying. Yet his eyes remained fixed on the wedding car, where Kendall sat inside, never glancing his way.
As he sprinted madly after her, all the memories he tried to forget drowned him like a tidal wave.]]
He recalled the countless times he had deceived Kendall, the promises he had sworn were true, each one cutting into his heart like a knife. She had taken such good care of him when he was sick, and had been so incredibly generous in their intimate moments; every sweet memory now turned into a brutal judgment against him.[]
She was so amazing, such a wonderful person who once belonged to him, and now, she was marrying someone else.
“Kendall, don’t do this. I really understand now. Please, don’t marry him. I’m begging you.”
His voice trailed off, almost crumbling into a sob. But the car kept moving, and Kendall’s figure slowly faded into the night.]
Suddenly, a car roared out of control from the side. Blinding headlights illuminated Elijah’s pale face, and before he could even react. he heard a deafening crash.]]
His body flew through the air, hitting the ground hard.[]
Pain shot through him from head to toe, and his consciousness began to blur as the world around him darkened.[]
In his final moment before slipping into oblivion, a single thought pierced his mind. “If I die, Kendall, will you ever forgive me?“]
When Elijah woke again, he found himself in a hospital bed. The sharp scent of disinfectant filled his nostrils, and the overhead lights stabbed at his eyes. He tried to move, but it felt like every inch of him had been crushed, and he gasped in pain.[]
“Awake?” Haley’s voice came from nearby, laced with disappointment.]
Elijah turned his head and saw Haley sitting by his bedside, her face dark with fury. Her eyes were full of anger and disappointment as she gritted her teeth. “Elijah, how could you be such a brother? Do you realize you nearly crippled yourself?. Now that you’re awake, you better heal up quickly and get your ass back to Northland. You’re never coming back to Sunterland again.“[]
Ignoring her tirade, Elijah desperately asked, “What about Kendall? Has she come to see me?“[]
Haley’s expression soured even more. She opened her mouth to respond, but at that moment, the door swung open.[]
Kendall walked in, holding Marcel’s hand.[
Elijah’s eyes brightened, a flicker of hope igniting in his chest.[]

He struggled to sit up, only to feel a wave of agony wash over him.[]
Forgetting the pain, he gazed at Kendall with urgency, his voice trembling, “Kendall, you’re here. Please, just give me a chance to talk to you, just once.“]]
Kendall looked at him coolly, her eyes betraying no emotion.[]
Marcel smiled gently and said calmly, “It’s okay. Let’s give him one last chance to be clear.“[]
Kendall nodded and stepped closer to the bed, her gaze still icy. “What do you want to say?“[]
his voice ra Elijah felt a lump in his throat, his raspy and barely a whisper, “Kendall, I know I messed up. I really know I messed up. Will you forgive me? I’m begging you. I can’t live without you.“[]
But Kendall shook her head, her voice resolute. “Elijah, I’ve let it go. How do you feel right now?“]
Elijah hesitated, then replied with a bitter smile, “It’s unbearable. Kendall, losing you kills me.“[]
Kendall nodded, her tone unchanging. “When I heard those things at the club, I felt just like that. But now, I’ve moved on. Elijah, you need to focus on your own life.“[]
Elijah’s face drained of color; it felt as if something was crushing his heart, making it hard to breathe. He shook his head vigorously, on the edge of breaking down. “No, Kendall, I can’t let go. Having had someone as wonderful as you, I can’t let go. I see no one but you.“[]
Kendall interrupted him coldly, “That’s your problem. I’ll be with Marcel, have kids, grow old. Your life has nothing to do with mine anymore. I told you, the greatest advantage of being with me is that I can both hold on and let go. Elijah, we shouldn’t meet again.“]
Tears streamed down Elijah’s face uncontrollably, a wave of despair crashing over him. He closed his eyes and recalled that day at the club–when Kendall had asked him about marriage.[
How had he responded then?]
With lies and aloofness.[]
Back then, he never imagined he would one day be begging for her forgiveness in such a lowly way.[]
He shut his eyes and started to dream.[]
That day, Kendall had taken his hand again, her eyes glistening with hope.
“Elijah, I’ll be thirty next year. My family’s been pushing for me to get married. I know you don’t want to go public, so I haven’t told them about my boyfriend. They’ve set me up with a few potential matches. What do you think?”
This time, he took her hand, put a ring on her finger, and kissed her lovingly on the ring finger, his eyes full of affection.[]
“What do I think? I think you shouldn’t be set up with anyone else. Kendall, marry me.“[]
“Kendall, you belong to me.’
If he had proposed to her that day if he had held onto her, would everything have turned out differently?]
But now, that was all just a fading illusion.[]
He knew he would have to rely on those fleeting memories for the rest of his life.[]
