No Mercy, No Forgiveness Novel Ch 5

She could only wait till he came back in the morning.

She thought she’d spend another night alone.

To her surprise, he came back at midnight.

She was still awake. Stepping forward, she skillfully took his suit jacket and briefcase.

They looked just like an ordinary couple.

“Don’t text me again.”

His cold voice sounded, shattering the moment’s peace.

Hanging the suit jacket, her hands trembled. Then she murmured, “Alright. I won’t.”

Not sensing anything wrong, he went straight to the study.

Over the years, whenever he came back, he had mostly spent his time alone in the study.

Perhaps to him, everything in the world of those with hearing impairment was quiet.

Or perhaps he simply didn’t care about her.

That was why he was calmly proceeding with his business in the study as usual, even though it was about acquiring the Ramirez Group.

Maureen brought him soup, which was a routine. Listening to him discuss with his subordinates about acquiring her father’s company, she was overcome with indescribable emotions.

She knew her brother was useless, and it was only a matter of time before the Ramirez Group was acquired. But it never once occurred to her that the one to make the first move would be her own husband.

“Geoff,” a voice interrupted Geoffrey.

He was momentarily stunned. Whether out of guilt or something else, he quickly ended the voice call and snapped the laptop shut.

Pretending that she didn’t see anything, Maureen entered the study and placed the soup on the desk.

“Geoff, rest early after you finish the soup. Nothing beats your health.”

For some reason, Geoffrey felt slightly relieved as he heard her gentle voice.

Maybe she didn’t hear anything.

Driven by impulse–due to guilt, perhaps–he called out to her as she was turning to leave.

“You said you had something to say to me. What is it?”

Looking at his face, which was nothing but familiar, she asked gently, “Do you have time this morning? Could you come with me to get a divorce?”

Maureen’s voice was so calm.

It was as if she were talking about the weather instead of divorcing Geoffrey.

Geoffrey’s pupils shrank.

“What did you say?”

Over the past three years, no matter how outrageous he was, Maureen had never mentioned the word “divorce“.

In fact, he knew very well how much she loved him.

Maureen’s originally hollow eyes were filled with lucid clarity.

“Mr. Sutton, I’m sorry for holding you back these years.

“Let’s get a divorce.”

Geoffrey unconsciously clenched his hands on both sides.

“You overheard my conversation with my subordinates, didn’t you? Your family is on the brink of collapse. Since someone is going to take over, why can’t it be me?

“What is it that you want? A child? Money? Or do you want me to call off the acquisition of the Ramirez Group?

“In case you’ve forgotten, Maureen–I never loved you. Your threats are useless.”

As Maureen stared at him, she suddenly couldn’t recognize his face anymore. Her throat tightened as a sharp pain shot through her ears. Even with the hearing aid, she could no longer make out what he was saying.

She could only answer his earlier question, “I want nothing.”

Not wanting him to notice anything wrong, she left the study.

Staring at her retreating figure, Geoffrey felt an inexplicable frustration he had never felt before.

Not in a habit of controlling his emotions for the sake of others, he flipped the desk over.

The soup Maureen made spilled all over the floor…

After entering her room, Maureen forced down handfuls of pills.

She felt behind her ear, and her fingers were stained with bright red blood.

Perhaps the pills worked. When it was dawn, her hearing recovered a little.

Staring at the pale sunlight filtering through the window, she was lost in thought for a long time.

“The rain has stopped.”
