No Mercy, No Forgiveness Novel Ch 7
He could only go back to the living room. As he turned on his phone, all he received were work–related messages. A day had passed, yet Maureen hadn’t called him or texted him to apologize.
“Good for you, Maureen. I’m curious–how long can you keep this up?”
He tossed the phone aside and walked into the kitchen.
The moment he opened the fridge, he was stunned.
Besides food, the fridge was stocked with various medications.
He picked up a packet, and the instructions were, “Five packets a day. Aimed at treating infertility.”
Infertility…
The pungent smell of medicine hit his nostrils.
Only then did it hit him–this was why she always carried the scent of acrid odor of medicine.
He couldn’t help but scoff. They had never slept together. No amount of pills would ever get her pregnant.

Meanwhile, in a shabby motel room.
Maureen opened her eyes groggily to a piercing silence. Her headache was killing her.
She knew her condition had worsened.
Usually, she could hear faint sounds even without her hearing aid.
Fumbling in the dark, she took the pills from the nightstand and placed one under her tongue, the bitterness soon spreading through her mouth.
Yesterday, she left Pearl Villa, the place where she had lived for three years.
Then she went back to her parents‘ house first.
When she was about to push open the door, she overheard Noelle discussing with her brother, Adrian Ramirez. They wanted to marry her to an old man in his eighties after the Sutton family kicked her out…
As she stared at the ceiling blankly, it suddenly dawned on her–she never had a home.
For two days, she hadn’t eaten, but she didn’t feel hungry.
It was just that the all–consuming silence was almost terrifying.

Gazing out the window, she watched passers–by walking along the street in twos and threes. She was the only one
alone.
On an impulse, she bought a bus ticket and went to the countryside. She wanted to see Zoe Ingram, her nanny who had looked after her.
It was already 9:00 p.m. when she arrived at Zoe’s door.
Zoe’s wrinkled face lit up with surprise the moment she saw Maureen.
“Reenie…”
Maureen’s nose twitched as she looked at Zoe’s kind smile. She reached out to hug Zoe. “Zoe…”
Due to health reasons, Zoe had never married or had children of her own.
Maureen felt closer to Zoe than to her own mother, Noelle.
That night, Maureen nestled in Zoe’s arms, feeling as if she were a little girl again.
Holding Maureen, Zoe was shocked when she felt nothing but bones.
Zoe placed her hand on Maureen’s bony back and trembled uncontrollably.
She forced herself to calm down and tentatively asked, “Reenie, is Geoff good to you?”
Maureen’s throat tightened when she heard Geoffrey’s name. She instinctively wanted to lie, to tell Zoe he had always treated her well…
But she knew Zoe wasn’t a fool.
Since she had decided to leave, she no longer wanted to lie to herself or Zoe, the person who loved her.
She said, “The love of his life is back. I’m getting a divorce. He’ll soon have his freedom back.”
Zoe gaped at her.
For more than once, Maureen had said she wanted to grow old together with Geoffrey.
Not exactly sure what to say, Zoe could only comfort Maureen softly, telling her she’d meet someone who loved her
sooner or later.
Maureen nodded in silence, the ringing in her cars drowning out Zoe’s soothing words.
For the first time in ages, Maureen slept soundly. When she woke up, however, she saw a large stain of blood on the
sheets.
She reached up and touched her right ear–it was sticky.
Spreading her fingers, she was met with a glaring, vivid red.
