Maureen’s eyelashes fluttered as she hurriedly wiped her ear with a couple of tissues and washed the sheets.
She didn’t want Zoe to worry about her condition. After quietly tidying everything up, she found an excuse and said goodbye to Zoe.
Before leaving, she left some of her savings on the nightstand when Zoe wasn’t looking.
Zoe saw her off at the station and kept waving long after the bus had disappeared.
Thinking back to how bony Maureen was, Zoe couldn’t help but call the Sutton Group’s internal line.
She introduced herself as Maureen’s nanny, saying she wanted to talk to Geoffrey. Hearing this, the executive secre- tary immediately relayed it to Geoffrey.
It was the third day since Maureen’s departure.
And it was the first time Geoffrey had received a call related to her.
Sitting in the chair, he tapped the desk, feeling particularly good. He was right–Maureen would cave within three days.
Zoe’s aged voice came through.
“Mr. Sutton, I’m the nanny who’s taken care of Maureen since she was a child. Please… Could you stop hurting her?
“She’s not as tough as she seems. Mrs. Ramirez was ashamed of her hearing impairment and asked me to look after her right after she was born.
“Mrs. Ramirez only took her back when she reached school age. Other than Mr. Ramirez, everyone else in the family treats her as a maid…
“You and Mr. Ramirez are the ones in Karaville she cherishes and loves the most. Please… I’m begging you, be nice to her…”
Geoffrey’s good mood was ruined when he heard Zoe’s sobbing voice.
“What is it? She didn’t have the guts to come to me and sent you to do her begging?”
His voice was devoid of any warmth, “Why should I give a damn how miserable her life is?
“Everything is her own doing.”
With that, he hung up directly.
All Maureen had told Zoe was how great Geoffrey was.

But now, Zoe realized how wrong Maureen was. Geoffrey wasn’t good at all. He simply didn’t deserve Maureen.

Maureen was on the bus back to the city.
Just then, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Geoffrey.
“You want a divorce? See you at ten tomorrow morning.”
She stared blankly at his text for a while before replying, “OK.”
Geoffrey’s gaze fell upon those two letters.
Somehow, he found them exceptionally annoying.
He could no longer concentrate on work.
He made some calls, inviting his friends to go out for a drink.
In the club.
Andrea showed up, too.
“Nobody leaves until they’re drunk,” Geoffrey announced.
Sitting next to him, Sean couldn’t help but ask, “How’s that deaf girl doing today?”
Geoffrey arched an eyebrow.
“Don’t bring her up ever again. We’ll go to the courthouse tomorrow.”
Sean was stunned. “For real?”
Andrea heard Geoffrey, too. Her eyes lit up as she poured him a drink. “Geoff, here’s a toast to your new life.”
Geoffrey drank a lot today.
Andrea offered to take him home, but he turned her down.
“That won’t be necessary,”
Since they were getting a divorce tomorrow, Maureen might come home tonight.
Andrea bit her lip, obviously not wanting to give up. “You’re about to divorce her. Why are you still turning me
down?
“Are you worried she might know about us?”
About us?
Geoffrey squinted slightly.

“You think too much,” he said flatly.
After sitting in the car, he still sent a car to take Andrea home gentlemanly.
On the way back, he picked up his phone from time to time.
Maybe Maureen would text him.
But she didn’t.
Soon, the car arrived at Pearl Villa. His expression darkened as he saw there was no light a
He entered the villa and turned on the light–here he was, surrounded by silence.
She didn’t come back.
The place was exactly as it was before she left.
