The Discarded Wife Became the Empress Novel Ch 9
Terror gripped their faces as tears streamed freely. Some, knowing escape was futile, gritted their
teeth and carried out the punishment themselves, if only to preserve a shred of dignity. Others
clung to denial, pleading weak excuses–only to be seized and forced down by the guards.
The chamber soon reeked of blood and fear, filled with the anguished cries of women who had once laughed at my downfall.
“You should be grateful,” one of the guards declared coldly. “Her Majesty has shown mercy. Were
this a true act of treason, your heads would already be mounted on the gates.”
Lillian and Everett said not a word. The color had drained from their faces as they clung to each
other in stunned silence, their fear laid bare.
The remaining courtiers understood there was no flaw in how I handled it. They couldn’t find fault
in my justice–even if their hearts still burned with resentment.
In the end, they bowed their heads and thanked me for my mercy. The Lord Chancellor, face twisted in grief, had no choice but to lift his wife’s lifeless body into his arms and carry her home.
I waved a hand. “You may all leave.”
Soon, only Everett and Lillian remained in the chamber.
“The gnats have been dealt with. Now for the vipers.”
Lillian immediately collapsed at my feet, trembling. Her voice cracked as she sobbed, “Please,
Eleanor–just once, show me mercy. I know I was wrong! I shouldn’t have tried to seduce Lord Ashford. I never even loved him! I just wanted to prove I could take something from you!”
“I’m… I was born of our father’s shame,” she choked out, “and the only way I could stay in House
Ravenshire was to serve as your maid. I hated it. I hated being beneath you.”
But the moment her eyes met the blood–slicked floors and the mangled body nearby, whatever composure she had shattered. Gone was the coy, pitiful act–now she was just a girl, groveling, begging, shaking like a leaf.
“You and Bree were born of the same scandal. Both of you our Father’s daughters,” I said coolly. “But Bree stood by me on the battlefield. She gave her life for this realm–loyal to the end.”
“And you think I’ll spare you after everything you’ve done?”

“Keep dreaming.”
I didn’t hesitate.
“Guards. Take Lillian to the dungeon. Let her face trial before the Queen’s Tribunal. And once the sentence is handed down–make sure the punishment fits her treachery. No mercy.”
During those three days of recovery, I devoted myself to investigating the affairs of House
Ravenshire.
It didn’t take long to uncover what Lillian had done in my absence.
She bribed the servants. Laced my mother’s meals with slow–acting poison. Day by day, my mother withered, wasting away until only a faint breath kept her alive.
Then she brought her own mother into House Ravenshire–installed her in my mother’s solar, seated her at the head of my family’s table, and let the world believe she now ruled the estate.
It wasn’t that I couldn’t tolerate her existence–I just couldn’t tolerate evil this vile.
Lillian screamed and thrashed as the guards dragged her out.
Everett didn’t say a word. Not a single plea for mercy.
He hadn’t thought I’d actually kill. And now that he’d seen it, he knew exactly what was coming for him. With a wild glint in his eye, he lunged for a blade and charged.
Fenric, who had remained silent the entire time, moved instantly.
Together, we overpowered Everett with ease.
He coughed up blood and collapsed, unable to rise.
“How shall we deal with him, Eleanor?” Fenric asked, eyeing Everett’s barely breathing body.
I raised a brow, crouched beside him, and smiled faintly. “For the sake of our once–promised engagement, I’ll be merciful.”
“Escort Lord Ashford back to his estate,” I said evenly. “See that he receives proper care. He is not to die–not yet.”
Everett blinked, stunned.
Even Fenric looked taken aback, jealousy flickering in his eyes. “You’re seriously showing him

pity? After all he’s done to you? What does that make me?”
I let out a quiet laugh and added, “Oh, I never said he’d be living comfortably.”
“As of today, Lord Ashford’s household no longer requires servants. He may scrub his own floors
and fetch his own bread. Let him rot in the shell of his former glory.”
“And be sure his meals match his new station–nothing but cold scraps from the guards‘ table.”
Fenric finally caught on. His lips curled into a smirk. “Ah… So that’s the kind of mercy we’re talking
about. Remind me never to get on your bad side.”
We stationed a full garrison at the Ashford estate. He wouldn’t escape.
With that chapter closed, I turned my focus where it truly mattered.
The next day, I my mother escorted to the Queen’s Wing, where she was given the chambers closest to mine. I saw to every detail myself.
Princess Elizabeth, Fenric’s mother, had long been dear friends with my mother. Now, they could spend their days together in peace.
