The Ex Who Became His Obsession Novel Ch 57
Alyssia emerged from Diana’s office, most of her time already gone.
But what truly made Alyssia hesitate outside the hospital room was the video she’d received from Beatrice on her way there.
Beatrice messaged: [Aly, this is for your eyes only. Watch it and delete it right after. Don’t tell a soul you’ve seen it.)
Alyssia put on her headphones and tapped to play the video.
Before the video loaded, a familiar voice reached her. “Aly,”
Alyssia froze, then instinctively flipped her phone face down onto her lap. The voice in her headphones wouldn’t stop
“Aly,” Leonard gasped, sounding like a dying man. “Aly, come here. Come here, I won’t be mad at you anymore. Please, don’t hide from me, okay? I’m sorry.
“If I’m gone, everything the Rivera family owns will be yours. Everything I have will be yours, too. If you want to be with Charlie, his voice broke with emotion. “Then be with him.
“But Aly, you have to learn to love yourself. Don’t be foolish anymore.
“Promise me you’ll spend more time with my mom. Afterward, come visit me once a year. Don’t tell me how things are with you and Charlie, and don’t talk about breaking up anymore.
“Aly, every time you say that, you’re pushing me toward death.”
Alyssia never once flipped her phone over. She couldn’t bring herself to look at the screen, terrified of seeing Leonard’s face, the tears in his eyes, or that pleading gaze.
Just one glance, and she would crumble; all her hard-won resolve and every struggle up to now would be for nothing.
Alyssia wondered, ‘Did Mrs. Rivera send me this video because Leonard’s condition still hasn’t improved? Perhaps he’s physically fine, but mentally, he might be struggling.
‘So, is Mrs. Rivera pleading with me to return and look after him, hoping we’ll reconcile?”
Beatrice hardly ever let herself cry. So when she did, Alyssia knew she was facing something she truly couldn’t handle.
‘What should I do now?’ Alyssia wondered.
Lost deep in thought, Alyssia even missed her stop. When she finally arrived at the hospital, she was still wavering on whether to go in.
But just as Alyssia was wavering in hesitation, Joseph happened to spot her.
Joseph froze for a heartbeat, then bolted toward Leonard’s hospital room.
At that moment, Alyssia hesitated. ‘Should I call out to Joseph, or just turn and walk away?’ she wondered.
Alyssia took a deep breath, chiding herself for being so indecisive. ‘Since I promised Mrs. Rivera I’d come, I s Leonard before deciding my next move,’ she told herself.
But at that very moment, as she turned, there stood Milena.
in’t overthink this. I’ll wait until I see
“Ms. Clairmont?” Milena, dressed to the nines and holding a lunchbox, called out, “What brings you here? Here to see Leon?”

Without waiting for Alyssia to respond, Milena sneered, “Ms. Clairmont, I remember telling you last time that Leon and are that now i verk ounce of shame, you’d know just how awkward it is to be the ex girlfriend. Don’t”
Milena looked Alyssia up and down, het eyes dripping with contempt. “Don’t tell me you’re planning to use your parents to called faver và và cũnên family to guilt Leon into reconciling with you?”
Alyssia wasn’t about to take the bait. Milena always pulled the same old tricks. Alyssia was already thoroughly bored with them.
Alyssia chuckled lightly, “Ms. Johnson, I heard all the money Summer Haze Media poured into Archer went straight down the drain, With a frontender like you around, does everyone have to perform a ritual to ward off bad luck when they get home!”
As expected, Milena was struck a nerve, her voice shot up. “What are you implying? The Archer situation has absolutely nothing to do with me. Alyssia, you’re just a reporter. Do you realize what could happen if you keep shooting your mouth off like that?”
“Is that so?” Alyssia regarded Milena calmly. “Then, Ms. Johnson, you must feel terribly wronged, forced to apologize for something you say you never did. That must feel pretty stifling, right?”
Milena’s face flushed with barely contained fury. But in an instant, she swallowed her words, forcing down the furious flush on her face.
Alyssia sensed a presence and turned around. Sure enough, Joseph was standing right behind her.
“Ms. Clairmont,” Joseph first glanced at Milena, then turned to Alyssia and said carefully, “Mr. Rivera says he’s exhausted today and would prefer not to see you for now.”
After Joseph reported that Alyssia had arrived, Leonard frowned and stared at his phone for a long moment before finally tossing a curt reply. “Not now.
I’m too tired.”
Hearing Joseph’s words, Milena scoffed, “Ms. Clairmont, if I were you, I wouldn’t have come here just to make a fool of myself”
Alyssia didn’t even glance at Milena. Instead, she calmly fixed her gaze on Joseph. “And what makes you so sure I came here to see Leonard? Did I ever say that to you just now?”
Joseph hesitated, looking flustered.
“Mrs. Rivera asked me to come. Where is she?” Alyssia said.
Joseph felt like he’d somehow gotten it wrong again. He scratched his forehead awkwardly. “I think Mrs. Rivera went to see your cousin?”
“Understood.” Alyssia gave a brief nod and turned to leave.
“Ms. Clairmont,” Milena caught up to her, leaning in close to whisper in Alyssia’s ear, “Ever since Leon’s accident, I’ve been right by his side. Our relationship is stronger than ever. If you had a shame, you’d stay far away from my boyfriend.”
With that, Milena spun on her heel and strode toward Leonard’s hospital room.
As Alyssia rounded the corner, her peripheral vision caught Joseph bowing slightly as he held the hospital room door open for Milena,
Alyssia continued to walk away, her face blank, but then, a self-mocking laugh escaped her.
And to think I was still hesitating, torn up inside, wondering if I should even go back,’ she wondered, ‘Not now? He’s too tired? Leonard’s words were probably just his way of letting us both save face, wasn’t it?
‘After all, it was Mrs. Rivera who called me over. He wouldn’t see me, yet the door was wide open for Milen.
Alyssia could tell herself to dismiss everything/Milena said, but what she saw with her own eyes couldn’t be mistaken.
‘How many more times?’ Alyssia asked herself bitterly. ‘How many more times must I endure this before I finally see the truth? Hadn’t Leonard already hurt me and cast me aside for Milena enough times already?
Chapter 57
‘I have already resolutely left the past behind, yet just a few words from Leonard after the accident made me waver?
Alyssia scoffed at her lingering naivety.
Maybe when one was not thinking straight, one ended up saying or doing things one
didn’t really mean.
Perhaps Beatrice took Leonard’s words seriously and still hoped Alyssia and Leonard could get back together. That was probably why she begged Alyssia
to come.
But Alyssia knew she had to stay clear-headed.
Alyssia thought to herself, ‘I finally see it clearly now. There’s no future for us anymore!
Alyssia picked up her phone and decisively deleted the video.
‘Thank God I didn’t watch any more of that video,’ she thought. ‘Otherwise, I’d probably be feeling even worse right now!
Joseph opened the door, his face lighting up slightly. “Mr. Rivera, Ms. Johnson is here to see you.”
Milena had actually come by more than once in the past couple of days, but every time Beatrice was there, denying her any chance to set foot in the
hospital room.
Having finally received word that Beatrice was out of the way, Milena wasted no time and rushed over to seize the opportunity.
Leonard had been resting with his eyes closed. At the sound, his eyes flew open, only to darken instantly when they landed on Milena.
Leonard said coldly, “I just told you I’m tired. Didn’t you hear me?”
