The Ex Who Became His Obsession Novel Ch 61
Alyssia, of course, knew the Clairivera Group was nearby.
But she never expected to run into Leonard just while getting coffee…
Without even glancing at Leonard, she took the paper bag from the shop assistant and placed it in the trunk of her car.
Alyssia smirked, her voice laced with sarcasm. “Mr. Rivera, with your grand vision, everything must seem noble to you.”
Leonard sneered. She’d only been

But before Leonard could make another sarcastic remark….
“Careful, Ms. Clairmont…” Rocco quickly stepped forward to help, loading the remaining coffee into the trunk and making sure they were secure. “There, that should keep them from tipping over.”
Leonard still hadn’t fully recovered. After leaving the hospital against medical advice, his private doctor had been chasing him to the Clairivera Group these days just to administer IV drips.
But he was clearly uncooperative-refusing both his medicine and his meals.
Rocco couldn’t help but worry, ‘If Ms. Clairmont provokes Mr. Rivera again…’
Rocco was perfectly content with his current job and boss, and the last thing he wanted was for anything beyond his control to jeopardize that.
“Thank you,” Alyssia said politely to Rocco. She wasn’t thanking him for hand in her th coffe but for smoothing things over.
Alyssia thought, ‘Joseph is more than enough for Leonard.’
“Ms. Clairmont, feel free to drop by more often,” Rocco said with a warm smile. “The ‘Clair’ in Clairivera, just like your family name, makes this your home too.”
His cordial demeanor was a stark contrast to the aggressive negotiator she’d faced at Vanguard Media last time.
Alyssia ignored his remark, got into her car, and drove away.
“The ‘Clair’ in Clairivera means it’s your home too…” Rocco sure knew how to talk.
All these years, everyone in Elmbrook knew the Rivera family, knew Clairivera. But who even remembered that the ‘Clair’ in Clairivera once stood for the Clairmont family?
‘My home disappeared long ago.
Clairivera, the Rivera family… there’s no going back.’ she thought.
“Brianna… Brianna…” As Brianna walked past Alyssia’s desk, a colleague softly called out to her.
Leaning in, the colleague discreetly gestured toward her calf and whispered, “Your stockings…”
“Oh dear!” Brianna glanced down. “Heavens! My cat’s been mischievous again…”
Brianna immediately turned to Alyssia. “Alyssia, put down whatever you’re doing and go get me a pair of stockings.”
Alyssia raised her head and looked at her calmly, saying nothing.

Brianna smiled condescendingly. “Alright, I know you’re too shrewd to i plate.”

After the coffee incident, people didn’t stop ordering Alyssia around; in fact, their demands only intensified.
Of course, every time they assigned her extra tasks, they’d promise to reduce her article quota by one.
But the total number of articles she had to proofread each day kept increasing, far surpassing her previous workload.
So, on paper, her burden was lighter, but in reality, nothing had changed at all.
Alyssia found herself juggling more errands and more proofreading than ever, working past midnight every day.
She was constantly busy, yet had nothing tangible to show for it.
When it came to performance reviews, all her hard work was reduced to a meaningless metric-insignificant and unrewarding,
“No,” Alyssia flatly refused. “Find someone else.”
“Go on,” Brianna said with feigned patience. “Everyone else’s work is more important than yours anyway, and it’s just across the street or the mal
She straightened up, looking down at Alyssia with undisguised condescension. “Don’t act up. You’ll get no special treatment here.”
Alyssia locked her computer and calmly stood up. “Very well.”
It was hard enough dealing with someone a rank above, let alone Brianna-she was two ranks above Alyssia and the daughter of a major shareholder.
Half an hour later, Alyssia returned and handed the stockings to Brianna.
Brianna looked aghast. “This brand? I never wear this brand of stockings!”
Alyssia replied flatly, “Didn’t see any others. Make do with these.”
Her utterly nonchalant tone made heads turn across the office.
In the Finance Department, everyone went out of their way to please Brianna.
But Alyssia was the exception-every time Brianna asked her to do something, she pushed back and half-assed the job.
No wonder she was Charlie’s favorite little pet.
“Alyssia, you should feel privileged that Brianna’s asking you to do something,” a colleague sneered.
“If it were us,
who wouldn’t jump at the chance to run this errand?”
Alyssia tossed the stockings onto her colleague’s desk. “Then you do it,”
She almost never lost her cool; the Finance Department had long picked up on this.
But she was a master of the poker face, speaking in a flat, inflectionless tone-her words few, yet each carried an unseen power… And somehow, it always ignited a fierce competitive streak in others.
While everyone in the Finance Department scorned Alyssia, many shrewd old media hands had already realized she was a born interviewer.
She kept a perfect poker face, spoke with razor-sharp yet concise words, and excelled at planting conversational nooks.
Such a promising talent-if she were an endearing little darling, everyone would be eager to help nurture her.
But when it came to Alyssia, a manipulative beauty who used her looks to get ahead, everyone would love nothing more than to crush her underfoot, lest

she one day rise to power undeservedly.
“Alyssia, go.” Brianna’s voice snapped from the office.

“I only wear one brand of stockings-anything else gives me a rash. If you’re going to do something, do it right. If you can’t even handle something simple as buying the right pair, how can I possibly trust you with anything more important?”
Such impeccable logic.
Alyssia picked up the stockings. “Fine. They’re non-refundable, and you didn’t specify the brand beforehand-that’s on you. Transfer me the money
first.”
‘Stockings at the mall across the street go for over twenty bucks. No way am I being the sucker here,’ she thought.
Brianna smirked, “Alyssia, I thought your family was well-off. Why are you so obsessed with money?”
“Oh,” she feigned sudden realization, “almost forgot-you’re an orphan, aren’t you? No parents at all.”
Seeing Alyssia’s face change, Brianna quickly added with a fake smile, “Oops, it just slipped out. You’re not mad, are you, Alyssia?”
Alyssia was an orphan. Brianna had found this out back at Ravendale University, when a professor in their department accidentally let it slip.
Brianna couldn’t fathom what gave an orphan like Alyssia the audacity to compete with her for Charlie.
It wasn’t until that day, at the food court outside Elmbrook University, when she saw Charlie and Alyssia together.
Only then did Brianna finally understand-Alyssia’s confidence came entirely from Charlie.
A man’s favor-now that was her greatest armor.
Brianna went out of her way to have Alyssia transferred to the Finance Department, where she harassed her, made her run errands, and constantly came up with new ways to make her life miserable.
Yet Alyssia always remained unflappable-her calm composure only made Brianna even more frustrated.
Only today did she finally discover Alyssia’s sore spot.
Bingo-targeting Alyssia’s deepest insecurity was the perfect way to humiliate her.
But before Brianna could revel in her triumph for more than a few seconds, Alyssia’s expression had already returned to its usual calm.
“I’m not angry, Brianna,” Alyssia continued in that same serene, gentle tone. “After all, you have both parents alive. You couldn’t possibly understand the pain of losing mine as a child. And yet you can smile while flaunting that pain before me publicly, delighting in my doubled anguish.”
