The next second, Luca burst through the door and saw the scene before him, his eyes blazing with fury.
“Ash, don’t be scared. I’m getting the healer–you’re gonna be okay.”
“I love you, Lynx,” she whispered weakly.
Luca carefully rushed her to the medical wing, then kicked me hard enough to send me flying into the wall.
“How can you be this fucking evil? That was an innocent pup!”
“No, it wasn’t me! She stabbed herself! Camera? Go check the cameras!”
I showed him Ash’s threatening text, but Luca shook his head in disgust.
“I don’t need to see shit! I saw you with my own eyes holding that knife. Still lying to my face?”
“Since you won’t learn, you need to feel the same pain.”
Luca dragged me to my pup’s incubator.
As I screamed in horror, he yanked out the power cord.
“No! Luca, he’s premature–he’s already so weak! You’ll kill him! She’s your daughter too!”
“Take your anger out on me, not him! Please, I’m begging you!”
I sobbed hysterically, banging my head against the floor as I begged.
Luca just laughed coldly.
“Now you know how Ash felt. Maybe this’ll teach you a lesson.”
Thirty minutes later, a nurse appeared.
“Miss Ash is awake!”
“Remember this, Seraphina. Hurt Ash again, and I’ll make you pay a hundred times over.”
Luca delivered his threat and walked away without looking back.
With shaking hands, I plugged the incubator back in.
But my pup never moved again.
Three hours later, I boarded a plane out of the territory.
At the same time, Luca’s beta called him.
“Alpha, we’ve got a major problem! Seraphina figured out you’ve been faking the whole ‘uncontrolled wolf thing!”
“You need to get here now–she’s taking the pup and getting on a plane!”
The phone clattered to the floor.
Luca’s mind went completely blank, his legs nearly giving out.
“No way. Sera’s crazy about me–she’d never leave. You’ve gotta be wrong.”
“Dude, I’m telling you the truth! Just get here–I can’t stall her much longer!”
Chapter 5
Luca’s eyes turned blood red, his voice shaking.
“Stop her! You have to fucking stop her!”
Too many thoughts crashed through Luca’s mind at once–all he knew was he had to find me.
“Lynx…”
Ash’s weak voice called from behind him, but Luca didn’t spare her a glance.
He shifted partially, his wolf taking over as he sped through pack territory, ignoring traffic laws and nearly colliding with other vehicles.
He couldn’t understand how I’d figured out he was faking.
When had I known?
Thirty minutes later, Luca reached the airport.
“Where is she? Where’s Sera?!”
“Why didn’t you stop her?! No! I have to go find her myself!”
He grabbed his beta by the collar. Seeing Luca’s unhinged state, his beta punched him hard.
“Get your shit together.”
Once Luca calmed down, his beta spoke slowly.
“That day when you called me… Seraphina heard everything.”
“Then why didn’t she say anything? If she’d just talked to me…”
Luca’s lips trembled as the words died in his throat.
What could I have said?
That my mate faked a mental disorder just to cheat with his side piece?
His beta sighed heavily.
“Alpha, secrets always come out. If you really loved Seraphina, why pull this shit in the first place?”
“You brought this on yourself, man.”
Luca collapsed where he stood, his chest tightening with each breath.
It wasn’t that he hadn’t thought about getting caught–he just believed he could keep the lie going.
Even if Sera found out eventually, after ten years together, she’d forgive him.
He never thought she’d leave so completely.
His beta pulled the nearly broken alpha to his feet.
“Come on. Luna said she left you three gifts. She wanted me to show you.”
